현대 영화계의 위대한 휴머니스트 고레에다 히로카즈 감독이 새로운 청춘의 찬가로 돌아온다. 오는 10월 8일 메가박스 단독 개봉을 확정한 영화 <룩백>이 그 베일을 벗기 전, 영화 속 두 주인공의 세계를 직접 경험할 수 있는 스페셜 팝업을 통해 관객들과 먼저 만난다.

세계적인 거장 고레에다 히로카즈가 연출, 각본, 편집을 맡고, <체인소 맨>으로 유명한 천재 만화가 후지모토 타츠키의 동명 만화를 원작으로 한 영화 <룩백>은 예술과 우정, 그리고 성장의 섬세한 결을 담아낸 작품이다. 학교 신문에 네컷 만화를 그리며 넘치는 자신감을 드러내는 소녀 ‘후지노’와, 그를 동경하지만 세상을 두려워해 방 안에 틀어박힌 외톨이 ‘쿄모토’가 만화라는 공통의 언어를 통해 서로의 세상이 되어주는 가슴 뭉클한 사계절을 그린다.

영화의 감동을 실경으로 확장하는 이번 팝업은 10월 3일(토)부터 10월 17일(토)까지 서울 마포구 연남 스페이스비에서 펼쳐진다. 

관람 동선은 주인공들의 서사를 그대로 따라가도록 섬세하게 설계되었다. 관객은 후지노의 추억과 흔적이 깃든 '후지노의 방'을 시작으로, 콜라보 포토 프레임이 마련된 '포토이즘 부스', 영화 속 주인공처럼 직접 네컷 만화를 그려볼 수 있는 작업실 내 '드로잉 존'을 거친다. 이어 쿄모토가 세상 밖으로 걸어 나온 상징적인 복도를 지나 '쿄모토의 방'에 다다르면 영화 속 장면에 들어와 있는 듯한 깊은 몰입감을 느낄 수 있다.

건물 2층에는 미공개 보도스틸 전시존과 <룩백> 오리지널 팝업 굿즈를 만날 수 있는 MD존이 들어선다. 특히 편안한 빈백에 앉아 원작 만화를 감상할 수 있는 리딩 공간이 함께 마련되어, 공간을 둘러본 관객들이 여운을 누리며 작품의 매력을 되새길 수 있도록 했다. 팝업 사전 예약은 9월 28일 오후 2시부터 시작되어 뜨거운 반응을 얻고 있다.

데구치 나츠키, 마키타 아쥬, 스다 마사키 등 내로라하는 배우진의 목소리 연기와 반도 유타의 감각적인 음악, 그리고 K2 Pictures와 슈에이샤의 정교한 제작이 어우러진 <룩백>은 개봉 전부터 글로벌 평단의 극찬을 받고 있다. 버라이어티(Variety)는 "고레에다 히로카즈 감독의 우정에 대한 감동적인 헌사"라 평했으며, 뉴욕 매거진(New York Magazine)은 "그가 왜 현대 영화계의 위대한 휴머니스트인지 입증하는 작품"이라고 환호했다. 

제31회 부산국제영화제 갈라 프레젠테이션 초청 및 야외 상영 전석 매진을 기록하며 올가을 최고 기대작으로 떠오른 <룩백>은 10월 8일 전국 메가박스에서 개봉한다.

Master filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda returns with a poignant homage to youth and artistic passion. Ahead of its official theatrical premiere on October 8, Look Back is set to offer audiences a transcendent prelude through an exclusive, immersive pop-up event in the heart of Seoul’s cultural district, Yeonnam-dong.

Directed, written, and edited by Kore-eda Hirokazu—and based on the celebrated graphic novella by Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw Man)—Look Back explores the delicate intersection of creative ambition, deep companionship, and emotional growth. The story follows Fujino, a confident schoolgirl who draws four-panel manga for her class newspaper, and Kyomoto, a reclusive girl who admires Fujino from afar. Bound by their shared obsession with manga, the two girls form an unbreakable connection, painting their changing seasons with vivid emotional resonance.

To translate this cinematic intimacy into a tangible space, the Look Back Pop-Up will run from October 3 (Sat) to October 17 (Sat) at Yeonnam Space B. The exhibition route is meticulously structured to mirror the narrative journey of the protagonists. Visitors begin at 'Fujino’s Room,' filled with her creative memories, before moving to a collaborative Photoism booth and an interactive drawing zone where guests can illustrate their own four-panel comics. Walking through the iconic hallway that symbolizes Kyomoto’s step out into the world, visitors reach 'Kyomoto’s Room,' recreated in painstaking detail.

On the second floor, visitors will find an exclusive still photography gallery alongside a merchandise zone featuring original Look Back pop-up goods. A dedicated reading lounge equipped with cozy beanbags allows fans to sit back and experience Fujimoto’s original manga, extending the emotional lingering of the film. Pre-reservations for the pop-up opened on September 28 at 2:00 PM KST.

Featuring brilliant voice performances by Natsuki Deguchi, Aju Makita, and Masaki Suda, along with an evocative score composed by Yuta Bando, Look Back has already swept global critics off their feet. Variety hailed the film as "a moving tribute to friendship," while New York Magazinenoted it as "proof of why Kore-eda remains one of modern cinema's great humanists." Following its Gala Presentation selection at the 31st Busan International Film Festival—where outdoor screening tickets sold out instantaneously—Look Back arrives in Megabox theaters nationwide on October 8.
