앨범에는 ‘30 problems’, ‘Sally’, ‘One minute’, ‘Dance Hall’, ‘Used to’까지 총 다섯 곡이 수록됐다.

Everyone Is the Main Character: FRankly Releases New EP ‘FR CINEMA’
“Everyone’s life is a film, and each of us is its protagonist. No matter what genre that film belongs to, this remains true.”
Korean band FRankly released their third EP, FR CINEMA, on October 8. Built around the message that everyone is the main character of their own life, the five-track project reinterprets early-2000s music and coming-of-age aesthetics through the band’s distinctive sound.
FRankly describes their music as “Nerd Pop.” For the band, being a nerd is not simply about being unconventional or different. Rather, it represents the freedom to pursue one’s interests without worrying about how others might perceive them. Having embraced this philosophy throughout their musical journey, FRankly returns to the concept with a renewed perspective on FR CINEMA.
The EP began taking shape through demo sessions in mid-2026, with drummer Ato’s suggestion of the album title helping establish its overall concept. While their second EP, OVER//DRIVE, released in January, explored new musical directions, FR CINEMA focuses on revisiting the band’s original creative identity and redefining Nerd Pop through a broader perspective.
The project features five tracks: “30 problems,” “Sally,” “One minute,” “Dance Hall,” and “Used to.” Rather than selecting a designated title track, FRankly developed each song around an individual narrative, giving all five tracks their own place within the album’s cinematic concept.
“30 problems” addresses the challenges that accumulate with age while encouraging listeners to keep moving forward. “Sally” follows a man preparing to confess his feelings without knowing what answer awaits him, while “One minute” expresses the urgency of wanting someone to listen, even if only briefly. “Dance Hall” celebrates dancing freely without worrying about outside judgment, and the closing track, “Used to,” delivers a message of perseverance in the face of repeated setbacks.
Formed in 2020 by Jung Seung-hwan, Koo Dong-wook, Ato, and Na Hyeong-cheol, FRankly has developed a pop-rock sound influenced by 2000s Britpop and American alternative rock, combining bittersweet emotions with candid lyrics. Beginning their activities around Seoul’s Hongdae music scene, the band has since performed more than 100 live shows.
Their achievements include a Top 10 selection in the Pentaport Super Rookie competition and a second-place finish in the Rookies on the Rock competition at the 2025 Busan International Rock Festival.
Following the release of OVER//DRIVE and the digital single “Paper Chase” earlier this year, FRankly continues to develop their musical direction with FR CINEMA. Through stories of growing up, relationships, uncertainty, and resilience, the EP delivers the message that everyone can be the protagonist of their own story.
Accompanying the release, the band shared a message that captures the album’s central idea: “We’re all the main characters of our own films!” As FRankly continues to pursue music on their own terms, FR CINEMA marks another chapter in the band’s ongoing creative journey.
