In Her Own Words: HYOI Introduces Her World Through Debut Album ‘H.’
“I’m truly grateful that you’ve welcomed the music my friends and I have had so much fun creating together into your everyday lives. I’ll continue to connect with you naturally through my own voice and sound. I’ll be back with a fresh album in November!”
Confident verses, bright melodies, honest lyrics, and a distinct sense of style. Korean artist HYOI is preparing to unveil her first full-length album, H., introducing listeners to her evolving musical identity. As a member of the creative collective Outlet & Friends, she has been developing a sound that bridges hip-hop and pop, accompanied by visuals that reflect her personal aesthetic.
Ahead of the album, HYOI released “MS. BALLER (with Luci Gang),” a track driven by powerful synthesizers and inspired by SWAG and pastel bounce, sounds gaining attention within the international underground hip-hop scene. Pairing ambitious, self-assured lyrics with playful energy, the song features her close friend and fellow rapper Luci Gang, whose natural chemistry with HYOI adds another dimension to the collaboration.
Their shared sense of style extends into the accompanying music video. HYOI pairs colorful Hollister pieces with vintage Levi’s denim and high-top sneakers, while Luci Gang embraces vintage Polo and Y2K-inspired accessories. Their styling evokes early-2000s nostalgia, visually capturing the confidence and lighthearted spirit of the track.
HYOI revealed another side of her musical personality with “U CAN.” Rather than following the conventions of a particular genre, she focused on creating an easygoing, memorable melody. Originally written over a type beat, the song was rearranged by her producer Ai BANCO. Inspired by young women enjoying music freely at concerts and clubs, the track captures a bright and carefree energy.
The music video for “U CAN” was filmed across various locations on Jeju Island. Following the stronger-than-expected online response to “MS. BALLER,” HYOI was eager to share new music and traveled to Jeju, where her music video director was staying, to shoot the project. The spontaneous production process reflects the collaborative and independent spirit behind her work.
Both singles serve as an introduction to her upcoming debut studio album, H., scheduled for release in November. The title reflects HYOI’s ambition to make the letter “H” synonymous with her identity as an artist. Developed alongside producer Ai BANCO, creative director eon, and fellow members of Outlet & Friends since last November, the project represents a collective creative effort shaped by their shared ideas and individual perspectives.
Moving between pop and hip-hop, H. explores the everyday experiences, relationships, and emotional fluctuations of a woman in her twenties. Through unapologetically candid storytelling, HYOI transforms familiar personal experiences into music that feels distinctly her own, hoping listeners will come to know her more closely through the album.
From music and fashion to visual storytelling, HYOI continues to build a creative world defined by her individuality. Having introduced different sides of herself through two pre-release singles, she now looks ahead to sharing a more personal chapter with her first full-length album, H.
