SOULBYSEL(소울바이서울)은 아티스트 정기고가 디렉터로 기획한 KPOP/KRNB 전문 큐레이팅 콘텐츠이다.
데뷔 20년 차를 맞은 한국 소울 음악 1세대 선구자격인 아티스트 정기고가 오랜 경험과 인사이트를 바탕으로 한국, 서울의 재능있는 아티스트들을 KPOP과 한국 음악을 사랑하는 세계의 많은 리스너에게 소개하고 있다.
SOULBYSEL(소울바이서울)은 “아이돌 산업으로서의 KPOP을 넘어 KRNB (케이알엔비) 라는 수식어로 대변되는 아이돌이 아닌, 아이돌을 제외한 한국의 모든 재능있는 뮤지션들을 서포트하고 소개하는 프로젝트를 준비하고 있다”고 밝혔다.
더불어, “컴필레이션 앨범은 분기별로 10곡씩 1년간 40곡의 볼륨으로 발매될 예정이며, 앨범 및 굿즈 제작, 여러 협력업체와 함께 마케팅과 홍보 등의 전적인 지원을 통해 전 세계의 KPOP/KRNB 팬들에게 재능있는 한국의 아티스트들을 소개하는 것이 목적”이라고 전했다.
현재 코로나로 인해 아직 기획 단계이긴 하지만 오프라인 공연이나 소울바이서울 페스티벌 같은 공연을 만들어 아티스트들이 팬들과 소통할 수 있는 무대를 마련하고 향후 아시아 전체를 무대로 아시아의 모든 아티스트가 '서울' 이라는 도시를 중심으로 교류하며 협업하는 것이 목표라며 앞으로의 계획에 대해 포부를 전했다.
SUMIN, Evy, Austn, Horim, June On, oceanfromtheblue, Lym en, Summer Soul, zoey, 쟈드 (Jade) 등 한국의 가장 트렌디하고 재능있는 아티스트들이 참여한 ‘SOULBYSEL(소울바이서울)’의 첫 번째 큐레이션 앨범이 발매되었다.
롤링스톤 코리아는 ‘SOULBYSEL(소울바이서울)’의 첫 번째 큐레이션 앨범에 참여한 아티스트들에게 이번 앨범에 참여하게 된 소감에 관해 물었고, 그들은 답했다.
한편, ‘SOULBYSEL Compilation 01(소울바이서울 첫 번째 큐레이션 앨범)’은 모든 음원 플랫폼에서 들을 수 있다.

“SOULBYSEL Compilation 01”
SOULBYSEL is curated content specializing in KPOP/KRNB and has been produced and directed by the artist Junggigo.
Marking the 20th anniversary since his debut, Junggigo, a pioneering artist of first-generation Korean soul music, is introducing talented artists from Seoul, Korea, to numerous listeners and lovers of KPOP and Korean music around the world, based on his long experience and insight.
According to SOULBYSEL, "We are working on a project to support and introduce all talented musicians in Korea represented by the modifier KRNB, except KPOP idol groups of the KPOP industry."
In addition, as per SOULBYSEL, "The compilation album will be released with a total of 40 songs per year (10 songs per quarter). Its aim is to introduce talented Korean artists to KPOP/KRNB fans around the world through full support, including album and goods production and marketing and promotion with various partners."
Although the album is still in the planning stage because of COVID-19, the goal is to create a stage where artists can communicate with fans through offline performances or the SOULBYSEL Festival and eventually gather all Asian artists to interact and collaborate on stages centered around Seoul.
The first curated album of SOULBYSEL involving Korea's trendiest and most talented artists, such as SUMIN, Evy, Austn, Horim, June On, oceanfromtheblue, Lym en, Summer Soul, Zoey, and Jade, has been released.
Rolling Stone Korea interviewed the artists who participated in the SOULBYSEL album, and asked about their impressions of taking part in it.
Meanwhile, all songs of SOULBYSEL Compilation 01 are available on all music platforms.
