Q. 8월 19일에 싱글 "3!4!"가 발매되었는데요. 곡의 준비 과정과 제작 비하인드에 대해 말씀해 주실 수 있나요? 녹음 과정은 어땠나요? 작업하면서 자신이나 아티스트로서의 역량에 대해 새롭게 발견한 점이 있나요?

ARIN: "3!4!"는 사실 이미 알고 있던 곡이었지만, 준비하면서 90년대에 유행했던 춤 스타일과 안무에 대해 더 많이 배우게 되었어요. 그 경험이 춤에 대해 더 깊이 이해하고 댄서로서 성장하는 데 큰 도움이 되었다고 생각해요!

BOME: "3!4!"를 듣자마자 제 보컬이 평소에 부르던 스타일과 조금 다르다는 걸 느끼실 수 있을 거예요! 평소보다 조금 더 높은 톤으로 부르고, 직관적이고 깔끔한 느낌을 주려고 연습할 때 특별히 신경을 썼어요. 그 과정을 통해 제 안의 또 다른 모습을 발견할 수 있었습니다!

Q. 궁금한데요, 이번 새 싱글을 단 세 단어로 표현한다면 어떤 단어를 선택하시겠어요? 그리고 그 이유는 무엇인가요?

MICHI: '청량(Refreshing)', '아련함(Nostalgic)', 그리고 '레트로(Retro)'요. 과거의 명곡을 리메이크한 곡이지만, 저희만의 에너지를 더해 상큼한 여름 느낌을 살렸어요. 저희의 밝은 콘셉트와 순수한 보컬이 청춘의 활기찬 기운을 담아내어, 곡의 빈티지하고 올드스쿨한 사운드와 정말 잘 어우러진다고 생각합니다.

AURORA: 저는 '데자뷔(Déjà vu)', '신선함(Freshness)', 그리고 '청춘(Youth)'을 고르겠어요! 우선 이번 싱글은 1996년에 발매된 룰라의 "3!4!"를 리메이크한 곡이에요. 당시 사람들이 느꼈던 감정과 추억을 불러일으키고, 많은 분들이 공감할 수 있는 익숙한 곡이라 '데자뷔'라는 단어를 골랐습니다. '신선함'을 선택한 이유는 "3!4!"를 통해 저희의 색다른 매력과 새로운 모습을 보여드릴 수 있는 기회라고 생각했기 때문이에요. 마지막으로 저희 뮤직비디오와 무대, 의상을 보면 가장 먼저 떠오르는 콘셉트가 '청춘'이라 이 단어를 선택했습니다.

Q. 완성된 버전의 "3!4!"를 다 함께 처음 들었을 때 반응은 어땠나요? 노래 중 어떤 부분을 가장 즐기셨나요?

KATELYN: 완성본을 듣고 정말 신났어요. 제가 가장 좋아하는 부분은 단연 랩 파트와 서현이의 브릿지 파트예요.

NAHYUN: 저는 원곡 "3!4!"를 정말 좋아했던 사람이라, 저희가 녹음한 완성본을 처음 들었을 때 정말 설렜어요. 다행히 저희가 열심히 노력한 만큼 정말 예쁘게 잘 나온 것 같아요. 개인적으로는 케이틀린과 아린 언니의 듀엣 랩 파트가 정말 멋있다고 생각했어요. 두 사람의 밝은 에너지와 걸크러시한 매력이 동시에 드러난 부분이었던 것 같아요.

Q. 재미있는 질문을 해볼게요! 만약 24시간 동안 다른 멤버와 삶을 바꿀 수 있다면, 어떤 멤버를 선택하겠어요? 그리고 그 이유는 무엇인가요?

ARIN: 저는 외국인 멤버들을 고를 것 같아요! 저는 영어를 들으면 머릿속에서 한국어로 번역한 다음에 답변을 생각해야 해서 시간이 정말 오래 걸리거든요. 외국인 멤버들은 영어를 잘하니까 바로바로 대답할 수 있는지 궁금해요!

SEOHYEON: 저는 미치 언니나 나현이요. 둘 다 키가 큰 멤버인데, 저는 키가 작은 편이라 키가 커져서 저 높은 곳의 공기를 마시는 게 어떤 기분인지 느껴보고 싶어요.

Q. 아이돌이 되겠다는 꿈은 어떻게 시작되었나요? 무대에 대한 열정이나 재능이 있다는 것을 처음 깨달은 것은 언제인가요?

BOME: 학창 시절 초등학교 4학년부터 6학년까지 3년 동안 합창단을 했고, 중학교 때부터 연습생이 될 때까지 4년 동안 학교 밴드부 활동을 했어요. 무대에서 공연하는 게 정말 즐거웠고 너무 행복했거든요. 그때 "아, 내가 해야 할 일은 이거구나"라고 깨달았습니다.

AURORA: 다섯 살 때 카라(KARA) 선배님들을 통해 K-pop을 처음 접하게 되었고, 어릴 때부터 음악을 좋아하고 무대에 서는 걸 즐겼던 것 같아요. 부모님과 가족들의 영향도 컸다고 생각해요. 오빠도 어릴 때부터 기타를 쳤고 지금은 일본에서 음악을 하고 있거든요. 어릴 때부터 예술을 통해 나 자신을 표현하고 싶다는 강한 욕구와 확실한 느낌이 있었어요. 일본에서 7년 동안 아역 배우로 활동했고, 뮤지컬을 공부하러 미국으로 유학을 가기도 했어요. 하지만 어릴 때부터 K-pop을 항상 좋아했기 때문에 자연스럽게 아이돌의 꿈을 꾸게 되었고, 14살 때 연습생이 되었습니다.

Q. 앞으로 앳하트로서 꼭 이루고 싶은 목표나 꿈이 있나요?

MICHI: 저희의 꿈은 언젠가 저희만의 월드 투어를 하는 것입니다. 전 세계의 '하트비트(팬덤명)'를 위해 앳하트의 무대를 보여드리고 싶어요! 저희가 동경해 온 큰 무대와 페스티벌로는 코첼라, 로라팔루자, 그리고 도쿄돔이 있어요. 또 저희 모두가 공유하는 개인적이면서도 뜻깊은 목표는 언젠가 각자의 고향에서 공연하는 거예요. 모든 것이 시작된 곳으로 돌아가 결실을 맺는다면 정말 특별한 기분이 들 것 같아요.

NAHYUN: 전 세계에 계신 팬분들과 함께 저희 노래를 부를 수 있는 날이 오기를 바라요. 모두의 함성 소리를 듣고 다 함께 떼창하는 순간은 정말 가슴 벅차고 행복한 순간이 될 것 같아요.

Q. 음악 외적으로는 어떤가요? 팬들이 여러분을 더 알아가면서 발견해 주었으면 하는 여러분만의 재능이나 특기가 있나요?

KATELYN: 음악 외적인 특기라면 코바늘 뜨개질인 것 같아요.

SEOHYEON: 저는 중학교 때부터 연기를 공부했고 고등학교도 연기 전공으로 진학했어요. 대회나 공연에도 참여해 왔기 때문에 연기할 때의 또 다른 제 모습을 보실 수 있을 거예요.

Q. 지금의 자리에서 미래의 앳하트에게 메시지를 보낼 수 있다면 무슨 말을 하고 싶나요?

MICHI: 언젠가 지난날을 돌아봤을 때 모든 힘든 시간들이 가치 있었다고 느낄 수 있으면 좋겠어. 우리가 여기까지 온 것에 대해 자부심을 가져! 우리를 여기까지 오게 도와준 모든 분들을 잊지 말고, 미래를 꿈꿀 때 느꼈던 열정과 설렘을 기억하자. 우리가 얼마나 멀리 가든, 무대를 즐기고 우리가 사랑하는 일을 하며 계속 행복했으면 좋겠어. 그게 가장 중요한 거니까.

ARIN: 이 여정을 지나오면서 힘들거나, 기쁘거나, 슬픈 순간들이 있더라도 서로에게 의지하고 아껴주면서 함께 성장해 나가자. 조금만 더 힘내자! 계속 나아가고, 더 많이 성장해서 앞으로 나아가자. 우리는 할 수 있어!

AtHeart: Reimagining 90s Retro into a New Era of Youth

Even as eras change, the retro sound of the 1990s continues to evoke a nostalgic wave with its distinctly refreshing energy and old-school beats. The rookie group AtHeart brings a brand-new narrative of youth to this familiar nostalgia, layering it with their vibrant energy and pure vocal harmonies. Through their remake of the iconic classic hit "<3!4!>," the seven members deliver a bittersweet sense of nostalgia and déjà vu to listeners all at once.
From their diverse international backgrounds to their steadfast passion for the stage, AtHeart harbors bold ambitions—from performing in their respective hometowns to taking over global stages like Coachella and the Tokyo Dome. Rolling Stone Korea sat down with AtHeart to capture their genuine and sparkling story as they earnestly step closer toward their shining moments on stage.


First of all, hello to all of you! Could you briefly introduce yourselves to the Rolling Stone Korea readers?

MICHI: Hello! I’m MICHI from AtHeart! I’m from Hawaii, and I bring bright and positive energy to the group! My dream is to spread happiness to people through our music and performances.

ARIN:  Hello! I’m ARIN, the leader and main dancer of AtHeart! It’s an honor to have the opportunity to tell Rolling Stone Korea readers more about AtHeart. Please show us lots of love and support! 

KATELYN: Hi, I’m KATELYN from AtHeart, and I’m from the Philippines! It's so great to meet you all! 

BOME: Hello! I’m BOME, the main vocalist of AtHeart. It’s such an honor to have the opportunity to share the story of AtHeart with the readers of Rolling Stone Korea.

SEOHYEON: Hello! I’m SEOHYEON, and I’m in charge of being the “food fairy”! I consider myself an all-rounder who can both dance and sing! It’s an honor to have the opportunity to share AtHeart’s story with you! 

AURORA: Hello! I’m AURORA, AtHeart’s “tomato princess” and language genius! Haha. I can speak three languages, Japanese, English, and Korean, and I’m an all rounder who can pull off both singing and dancing! 

NAHYUN: Hello! I’m Nahyun, the youngest member of AtHeart! It’s so nice to meet you. I’m honored to have the opportunity to share our stories with the readers of Rolling Stone Korea through this comeback. We look forward to your support!

Your single “3!4!” was released on August 19. Could you tell us about the preparation and production process behind the song? What was the recording process like? While working on it, did you discover anything new about yourselves or your abilities as artists?

ARIN: “3!4!” was actually a song I already knew, but while preparing for it, I learned more about the dance styles and choreography that were popular in the ’90s. I think that experience was a great help in my journey of learning more about dance and growing as a dancer! 
BOME: As soon as you hear “3!4!”, you might notice that my vocals sound a little different from the way I usually sing! I paid extra attention during practice to singing in a slightly higher tone than usual and giving my vocals a more straightforward feel. Through that process, I was able to discover another side of myself! 
I’m curious—if you had to describe your new single in just three words, which three words would you choose, and why?
MICHI: Refreshing, Nostalgic, and Retro. Although the song is a remake of a classic from the past, we added our own energy to give it a fresh, summery feel. I think our bright concept and pure vocals capture the cheerful spirit of youth, which blends really well with the song’s vintage, old-school sound.
AURORA: I would go with Déjà vu, Freshness, and Youth! First of all, this single is a remake of “3!4!” by Roo’Ra, which was originally released in 1996. I chose the word “Déjà vu” because it brings back the emotions and memories people felt back then, and I think it’s also a familiar song that many people can relate to. I chose “Freshness” because I think “3!4!” gives us an opportunity to show a unique charm and a different side of ourselves. Lastly, when you look at our music video, performances, and outfits, the first concept that comes to mind is “Youth,” so I chose that word.

What were your reactions when you first listened to the completed version of “3!4!” together? Which part of the song did you enjoy the most?

KATELYN: I got super excited after listening to it, and my favorite parts are definitely the rap part and SEOHYEON’s bridge part of the song. 
NAHYUN: I was someone who really loved the original version of “3!4!”, so I was really excited when I first heard our completed recording. Thankfully, I think it turned out beautifully, especially considering how hard we worked on it. Personally, I thought KATELYN and ARIN’s duet rap part was really cool. I think it was a part that showed both their bright energy and their girl crush side at the same time.

Let’s have a little fun! If you could switch lives with another member for 24 hours, which member would you choose, and why?

ARIN: I think I’d choose the foreign members! When I hear English, I have to translate it into Korean in my head and then come up with an answer, so it takes me a really long time. I’m curious if the foreign members can answer right away because they’re good at English! 
SEOHYEON: I’d say MICHI or NAHYUN. Both of them are tall members, and since I’m on the shorter side, I’d love to be taller and experience what it’s like to breathe the air up there.

How did your dream of becoming idols begin? When did you first realize that you had a passion or talent for performing?
BOME:  During my school years, I was in the choir from fourth grade to sixth grade, for three years, and then I was in the school band for four years from middle school until I became a trainee. I really enjoyed performing on stage and felt so happy doing it. That’s when I realized, “Ah, this is what I should do.” 
AURORA: I first started listening to K pop when I was five years old through KARA, and I think I’ve always loved music and enjoyed being on stage. I think my parents and family had a big influence on me. My older brother also started playing guitar when he was young and is now pursuing music in Japan. From a young age, I had a strong desire and a clear sense that I wanted to express myself through art. I spent seven years working as a child actress in Japan, and I also went to the United States to study musical theater. But since I had always loved K pop growing up, I naturally began dreaming of becoming an idol, and I became a trainee when I was 14.

Is there a goal or dream that you definitely want to achieve as AtHeart in the future?

MICHI: Our dream is to one day have a world tour of our own. We want AtHeart to perform for ‘heartbeat’ all over the world! Some of the big venues and festivals we have looked up to are Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Tokyo Dome. Another personal and meaningful goal we all share is to one day perform in our hometowns. It would feel so special to go back to where it all began and have everything come full circle. 
NAHYUN: I hope the day comes when we can sing our songs together with our fans from all over the world. I think hearing everyone’s cheers and singing along together would be such an overwhelming and happy moment.

What about outside of music? Is there a talent or skill you have that you’d like people to discover as they get to know you better?
KATELYN: I guess a skill I have outside of music is crocheting. 
SEOHYEON: I’ve been studying acting since middle school and even attended high school as an acting major. I’ve also participated in competitions and performances, so there’s another side of me that you can see when I’m acting.

If you could send a message to the future AtHeart from where you are today, what would you say?

MICHI: I hope you can look back one day and feel that all the hard times were worth it. Feel proud of how far we’ve come! Don’t forget all the people who helped us get to where we are today, and remember the passion and excitement we felt when we were dreaming about the future. No matter how far we go, I hope we continue to enjoy performing and stay happy doing what we love, because I think that’s the most important thing. 
ARIN: Even if there are moments when things feel difficult, happy, or sad while we’re going through this journey, let’s lean on and care for each other as we continue to grow together. Let’s hang in there! Let’s keep going, grow even more, and move forward. We can do it!
