1300 close 2023 with epic collaboration ‘GANTZ’ featuring South Korean rap royalty EK

Korean-Australian rap crew 1300, composed of rappers rako, goyo, rapper-singer-dancer DALI HART, producer-singer Nerdie and producer pokari.sweat drop stellar, new single yesterday titled “GANTZ”. 

 

The bass-heavy offering features EK, a major rap purveyor from the South Korean hip hop scene who came to prominence in 2015 as the leader of the renowned M.B.A Crew. The two forces to be reckoned with link up to deliver a mighty, bilingual track that sees them seamlessly take turns to lay down frenetic verses amongst a reverberating, ground-shaking beat. 

Inviting you on an intergalactic journey with “GANTZ”, 1300 say, “The song is about ambition and the pursuit of progress and perfection…gazing at the stars, reaching into the sky and trying to capture everything”. 

 

This colossal collaboration with one of South Korea’s biggest and most respected rap stars further cements 1300 as an exciting new band bridging the sounds of the East and West. “GANTZ” follows the pulsating single “Lalaland”, one for the ravers and the chronically online which marked their return, newly signed to Eastern Margins. 1300’s partnership with Eastern Margins taps into the East & South-East Asian creative scene bubbling up in the UK, emblematic of the global collaboration across the East & South-East Asian diaspora. 

 

1300 initially came together following a chance encounter at a house party, after years spent orbiting around one another in Sydney’s small Korean-Australian music scene. Together, they combine their versatility within rap and producing to deliver high-octane music that  transcends genre and illuminates the voice of Asian artists whilst reshaping the Aussie hip-hop landscape that translates into an electric display of infectious energy and stage presence. 

Within a year, 1300’s made waves with early  tracks like ‘Brr’, ‘No Caller ID’, and ‘SmashMouth’. Following the singles, their remix of Payday and Danny Brown's ‘Vampire’ and dynamic duo 'Oldboy' and 'Rocksta' brought a triple j Like A Version performance and a feature on ATEEZ's playlist. They then dropped their first full-length mixtape ‘Foreign Language' followed up with hits like 'CARDIO!', 'Steve Jobs (feat. Kwame)', a remix of Theophilus London’s ‘Get Your Money’, and EP '<3', with their success leading to a sold-out national tour and performances at major festivals, including Golden Plains, Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival and more. Their high-quality music videos and unique style solidify their place as an influential pillar in Australian music, earning them notable support slots, sharing stages with Genesis Owusu, PNAU and Confidence Man.

 

1300's vision resonates with listeners and industry, featuring in NME 100, Colors, HipHopDX, VICE, Paper, Hypebeast Korea, Dazed Korea, i-D Korea and more. Accolades include Australian Music Prize top 9 Shortlist, #23 NME Best Australian Albums of 2022 and triple j and Rage Australian Music Video of the Year. They're recognized internationally by HiphopLE and Hiphopplaya, with two grants from the Australian Council for the Arts. Their global presence is shown through syncs on Disney+ ‘AUSTRALIAN BORN CHINESE’, Netflix’s ‘Heartbreak High,’ featuring in the NBA 2K24 game soundtrack, cosigns from notable Korean and Australian artists such as Stray Kids, Kid Milli, Ugly Duck, APRO, Ninajirachi, Kwame and Taka Perry and most recently had their songs played during Esports 'League of Legends World Championship 2023' hosted by Riot Games.

 

Their unique identity propelled them to South Korea and the USA. In the US, they performed at 'The Aussie BBQ, SummerStage' in New York, invited by Sounds Australia. In South Korea, 1300 headlined, supported, and appeared for prominent music companies, performing at Henz Club, Value Club, Seoul Community Radio's Hajodaze YangYang party, and the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. Last month, 1300 took to the road  on a mini-Asian tour including performances in Seoul at Zandari Festa, Peaches One Universe with APRO, Eastern Margins ‘Road 2 Redline’ in Tokyo alongside appearances at SXSW Sydney, OzAsia Festival and Someday Soon.
