2025년 가장 주목받는 루키 중 하나로 떠오른 클로즈 유어 아이즈(CLOSE YOUR EYES)는 이미 K-팝 신에서 확실한 존재감을 드러내고 있다. 글로벌 그룹 클로즈 유어 아이즈는 올해 초 JTBC 서바이벌 프로그램 <프로젝트 7(PROJECT 7)>을 통해 결성된 이후, 최신작 [blackout]을 포함해 세 장의 EP를 연이어 발표하며 빠른 성장세를 보여주고 있다. <롤링스톤 코리아>는 최근 멤버들을 만나 이번 미니앨범을 통해 새롭게 시도한 콘셉트와 앞으로 이루고 싶은 목표에 관해 이야기를 나눴다.

1. [RSK] 오늘 함께하게 되어 반가워요. 클로즈 유어 아이즈를 처음 접하는 독자들을 위해 멤버별로 간단한 자기소개 부탁해요.

민욱: 안녕하세요! 클로즈 유어 아이즈의 리더 민욱이에요.

성민: 안녕하세요, 클로즈 유어 아이즈의 성민이에요. 제 매력 포인트는 ‘아담스 애플’이에요!

승호: 클로즈 유어 아이즈에서 비주얼을 맡고 있는 승호예요.

켄신: 안녕하세요, 켄신이에요! 일본에서 왔고, 특별한 미소를 가지고 있어요!

2. [RSK] 세 번째 미니앨범 [blackout]을 발매했어요. <내 안의 모든 시와 소설은>, <Snowy Summer>에서는 소년적인 콘셉트가 돋보였다면, 이번 EP의 타이틀곡 <X>와 <SOB>에서는 더 대담하고 성숙한 면모가 느껴져요. 최근 무대를 통해 이러한 성장을 어떻게 보여주고 있다고 생각하나요?

민욱: 이번 퍼포먼스는 정말 대담하고, 역동적이고, 에너지가 넘친다고 생각해요. 음악적으로 많이 성장한 만큼 무대에서도 성숙한 모습을 보여주고 싶었고요. 동작 하나하나에 힘을 많이 싣고, 대규모 댄서 팀과 함께하면서 스케일 면에서도 훨씬 커졌습니다.

3. [RSK] 이번 앨범에는 멤버들이 직접 제작 과정에 참여했다고 들었어요. 민욱은 <X> 작사에, 켄신은 안무에 참여했다고요. 가장 마음에 드는 가사나 동작은 무엇인지, 작업 과정에서 기억에 남는 에피소드는 뭔지도 듣고 싶어요.

켄신: 제가 만든 안무 파트가 제일 좋아요!(웃음) 제가 직접 만든 동작이기도 하지만, 표정 연기를 제대로 보여줄 수 있는 부분이거든요. 예전에는 귀여운 이미지가 강했다면, 이번에는 무대에서 좀 더 멋있는 켄신을 보여줄 수 있었어요.

민욱: 가사 작업에 정말 많은 시간을 썼어요. 처음에 제가 쓴 가사 일부를 성민에게 들려줬는데, “어? 이 파트 네가 쓴 거였어?”라고 하더라고요. 제가 만든 줄도 몰랐다는 게 조금 서운했지만, 지금 생각하면 웃지 못할 추억이에요.(웃음)

여준: 제가 녹음할 때는 보통 곡의 메시지나 스토리를 잘 알고 들어가는데, 특히 민욱이 파트에서는 민욱이가 어떤 영감으로 가사를 썼는지 최대한 상상하려고 노력했어요. 그래서 더 궁금한 마음이 커졌고, 더 집중해서 임할 수 있었어요.

4. [RSK] 지금까지 뮤직비디오마다 각기 다른 멤버가 주인공으로 등장했어요. <내 안의 모든 시와 소설은>의 켄신, <Snowy Summer>의 승호, <SOB>의 민욱, <X>의 여준에 이어, 마징시앙, 성민, 경배의 이야기도 기대돼요. 앞으로 도전해 보고 싶은 장르나 스토리가 있나요?

경배: 다음에는 제가 주인공이었으면 좋겠어요! 배경은 빈티지하거나 미드 센추리 모던(Mid-Century Modern) 느낌이면 좋겠고, 왕자 같은 역할을 해보고 싶어요. 음악은 첫 EP처럼 감정이 짙은 곡이면 정말 좋을 것 같아요.

5. [RSK] 클로즈 유어 아이즈는 2026년 1월 첫 국내 단독 콘서트와 2월 일본 투어를 앞두고 있어요. 앞서 팬 미팅 <클로저 모멘츠(CLOSER MOMENTS)>를 통해 팬들과 가까이에서 만났는데, 정식 콘서트를 앞둔 소감은 어떤가요?

여준: 이전 이벤트들은 팬들과 소통하는 데 초점이 맞춰져 있어서 많은 곡을 부르지는 못했어요. 데뷔 전부터 저희만의 콘서트를 여는 게 꿈이었는데, 드디어 그 꿈을 이루게 됐어요. 정말 설레고, 너무 기대돼요.

6. [RSK] 무대에 오르기 직전엔 어떤 생각을 하나요?

마징시앙: 저는 항상 안무를 먼저 떠올려요. 제가 팀에서 키가 가장 크다 보니 실수를 하면 더 눈에 띄거든요. 그래서 카운트랑 손의 각도, 동선을 계속 머릿속으로 점검해요.

7. [RSK] 데뷔한 지 얼마 되지 않은 루키 그룹으로서, 앞으로 몇 년 안에 이루고 싶은 장기적인 목표가 있나요?

성민: 몇 년 안에 <코첼라(Coachella)> 같은 큰 페스티벌에 초대받고 싶어요. 팬들과 함께 그 무대를 경험하고 싶고, 정말 많은 관객 앞에서 공연해 보고 싶어요. 그게 제 꿈의 무대예요.

8. [RSK] 2024년 〈프로젝트 7(PROJECT 7)〉 첫 촬영 당시의 자신에게 지금의 모습을 보여준다면, 어떤 반응을 보일 것 같나요?

승호: 우리가 결국 데뷔라는 꿈을 이뤘다는 걸 가장 놀라워할 것 같아요. 데뷔 이후에는 음악방송 1위도 하고, 신인상도 받을 수 있었어요. 팬들 덕분에 정말 많은 걸 이뤘다고 말해주고 싶어요.

9. [RSK] <롤링스톤 코리아> 독자들에게 전하고 싶은 말이 있다면요?

민욱: 오래 기다려주신 모든 분께 감사드려요. 여러분의 사랑과 응원 덕분에 더 강해질 수 있었어요. 새 앨범 [blackout]도 많이 사랑해 주세요. 감사합니다!

여준: 이번 앨범은 정말 도전이었지만, 그만큼 성장할 수 있었던 계기였어요. 모든 걸 쏟아부은 만큼, 항상 응원해 주시는 팬분들께 그 사랑을 돌려드리고 싶어요. 앞으로도 최선을 다할게요!

CLOSE YOUR EYES’ 3rd EP “blackout” is an Evolution

As one of the most talked-about rookie acts of 2025, CLOSE YOUR EYES have already begun to make a name for themselves in the K-Pop industry. Earlier this year, the global group was formed on JTBC’s survival series PROJECT 7 and have since put out three EPs including their latest release, “blackout.” Recently, we caught up with the members to talk about the new concepts they explored in this mini album as well as career milestones they hope to reach in the future. 

1. [RSK] Hello CLOSE YOUR EYES! We are excited to have you with us today. For readers that are meeting the group for the first time, can we get a short self-introduction from each member?

MINWOOK: Hi! I’m MINWOOK, CLOSE YOUR EYES’ leader.

SUNGMIN: I’m SUNGMIN from CLOSE YOUR EYES, and my charming point is my adam’s apple!

SEUNGHO: I am the visual SEUNGHO from CLOSE YOUR EYES.

MA JINGXIANG: I am CLOSE YOUR EYES’ big boy, MA JINGXIANG! 

KYOUNGBAE: Hi I’m KYOUNGBAE, the main vocalist in CLOSE YOUR EYES.

YEOJUN: I’m YEOJUN, the main dancer of CLOSE YOUR EYES! Nice to meet you.

KENSHIN: Hi, I’m KENSHIN! And I have a special smile made in Japan! 

2. [RSK] Recently, you came out with your third mini album, “blackout!” While CLOSE YOUR EYES has leaned more towards boyish concepts in the past with tracks like “All My Poetry” and “Snowy Summer,” the two lead singles for this EP (“X” and “SOB”) delve into the members’ more bold and mature sides. In what ways do you think you have been able to highlight this growth through your recent performances? . 

MINWOOK: It’s very bold, dynamic, and energetic. Since we have evolved so much musically, we wanted to show the mature sides of us through the actual performances as well. On stage, we put a lot of power into our movements. We also collaborated with a large team of dancers, so this comeback has a much bigger scale. 

3. [RSK] We heard that a few of the members were directly involved in the production process this time as well! MINWOOK had a hand in creating the lyrics for “X,” while KENSHIN was involved with the choreography. Which line/dance move is your personal favorite, and are there any fun memories from the recording/dance studio you can recall?

KENSHIN: My favorite part of choreography is the part I made! (laughs) Of course I like it because I made it, but also because it really gave me the chance to work on my facial expressions. Before this I always gave off cute kind of vibes, but this time I could show a more cool KENSHIN throughout the performances. 

MINWOOK: I spent a lot of time making the lyrics. I do remember that when I first played some of the lines I wrote for SUNGMIN though, he was like “Oh, I didn’t know you made this part!” And I was kind of disappointed that he didn’t even realize I made it! That was a funny memory. 

YEOJUN: One thing I want to say is that when I record in the studio, I usually know what the song lyrics are about and the story they want to portray, but for MINWOOK’s parts especially I really tried hard to imagine the inspiration he himself had when writing it! I was so curious!

4. [RSK] So far, each music video has had a different protagonist: KENSHIN in “All My Poetry,” SEUNGHO in “Snowy Summer,” MINWOOK in “SOB,” and YEOJUN in “X,” and fans are looking forward to how MA JINGXIANG, SUNGMIN, and KYEONGBAE will be featured in upcoming projects. What genre of song and story are you hoping to try in the future?

KYOUNGBAE: Next time I want to be the main character! As for the background, I’d want it to be like old or mid-century vibes and play a prince. And I’d like the songs to be kind of similar to our first EP - very emotional would be great! 

5. [RSK] CLOSE YOUR EYES will soon be hosting your first domestic solo concert in January 2026 as well as a short Japanese tour in February. While you did have the chance to greet listeners in a more relaxed setting during your ‘CLOSER MOMENTS’ fan meeting events earlier this year, are you excited to finally debut a full concert set to audiences in Asia and eventually the entire world?

YEOJUN: For these last few events we didn’t get to perform that many songs, as it was mainly about communicating with our fans. Before making our debut, we always dreamed about having our own concert, so we are finally making it come true! I'm really excited and looking forward to it so much. 

6. [RSK] Before stepping on stage for a performance, what is the first thought that typically goes through your head?

MA JING XIANG: Well for me, I always think about the choreography. It’s especially important for me not to make any kind of mistakes because I'm the tallest member. If I do make a mistake, it’s more noticeable because everyone can see it very well. So I always remind myself of the counts and check the sides and angles where my hands need to be.

7. [RSK] As CLOSE YOUR EYES are still a rookie group, are there any long-term goals you have set your sights on accomplishing in the next couple of years? 

SUNGMIN: In a few years, we’d love to be invited to a big festival like Coachella! I’d really like to share that experience with our fans and a huge audience. That kind of performance is my dream performance!

8. [RSK] Still, you have come so far since your formation on the survival show PROJECT 7 back in 2024. If you could tell your previous self from the first day of taping how much the group has achieved since then, what do you think they would say?

SEUNGHO: We have finally made our dream come true, which was to make our debut! And after that, we also had the chance to win first place on music shows plus a few rookie awards thanks to our fans. We have been able to achieve so much through this journey already.

9. [RSK] Finally, is there anything else you would like to share with Rolling Stone Korea readers as we conclude today’s interview?

MINWOOK: Thank you to everyone who waited for us! We are even stronger because of your love and support. We hope you enjoy our new album “blackout.” Thank you!

YEOJUN: It was really challenging for us, but at the same time it was an evolution. We gave our all for this album. We always feel so grateful and want to send that love back to our fans, so we are going to continue to do our best!
