'파친코'부터 '암살자(들)'까지! 한계 없는 연기 스펙트럼 입증!

배우 이민호가 영화 '암살자(들)'에서 열정과 패기로 무장한 사회부 신입 기자 한영일로 분해 또 한 번 새로운 얼굴을 선보였다.

이민호는 지난 23일 개봉한 영화 '암살자(들)'에서 동성일보 사회부 신입 기자 한영일 역을 맡았다. '암살자(들)'은 1974년 8월 15일 광복절 경축식에서 벌어진 영부인 저격 사건을 중심으로 사건의 의혹과 배후를 추적하는 미스터리 추적극이다.

극 중 영일은 광복절 경축식 현장을 취재하던 중 예상치 못한 총격 사건을 직접 목격한다. 현장의 상황을 카메라에 담고 피해 상황을 확인한 그는 이후 자신이 본 사건을 취재하며 진상을 파악하기 시작한다. 단순히 주어진 내용을 전달하는 데 그치지 않고 직접 현장을 살피며 사건을 둘러싼 의문에 접근하는 모습으로 신입 기자다운 패기를 드러낸다.

이후 영일은 자신이 직접 목격한 상황을 되짚으며 사건의 정황을 하나씩 확인한다. 공식적으로 알려진 내용과 자신이 목격한 상황 사이에서 의문을 발견한 그는 직접 취재하며 답을 찾아 나선다. 경험이 많지 않은 신입 기자지만 궁금한 것을 그냥 넘기지 않는 영일의 태도가 사건을 바라보는 또 하나의 시선을 만들어낸다.

이민호는 영일의 자유롭고 거침없는 성격을 표정과 말투, 순간적인 반응으로 섬세하게 풀어냈다. 현장에서 거리낌 없이 질문을 던지는 장면에서는 신입 기자 특유의 풋풋한 패기를 담아내면서도, 자신의 판단을 이야기할 때는 한층 또렷한 눈빛과 단단한 말투로 캐릭터의 당찬 면모를 살렸다. 특히 선배 기자 재환(박해일 분)과 호흡을 맞추는 장면에서는 상대에 따라 미묘하게 달라지는 표정과 리액션으로 능청스러운 여유와 진지함을 오가며 영일의 성격을 생동감 있게 표현했다.

From 'Pachinko' to 'The Assassin(s)'! Proving an Unbounded Acting Spectrum!

​Actor Lee Min-ho has presented yet another new face, playing Han Young-il—a passionate and ambitious novice reporter in the social affairs section—in the film The Assassin(s).

​Lee Min-ho plays Han Young-il, a newly hired social affairs reporter at the Dongseong Ilbo, in The Assassin(s), which was released on the 23rd. The Assassin(s) is a mystery tracking thriller centered around the assassination attempt on the First Lady during the August 15 Liberation Day ceremony in 1974, unraveling the suspicions and forces behind the incident.

​In the film, Young-il witnesses the unexpected shooting firsthand while covering the Liberation Day ceremony on-site. After capturing the scene on camera and confirming the damage, he begins investigating the case based on what he saw to uncover the truth. Rather than merely delivering given facts, he reveals the spirit of a rookie reporter by directly inspecting the site and questioning the doubts surrounding the event.

​Afterward, Young-il traces back his own eyewitness account to verify the circumstances step by step. Finding discrepancies between official reports and what he saw with his own eyes, he embarks on a hands-on investigation to seek answers. Though inexperienced, Young-il's refusal to overlook questions introduces a distinct perspective to the investigation.

​Lee Min-ho delicately portrayed Young-il's free-spirited and bold personality through subtle facial expressions, tone of voice, and instant reactions. In scenes where he hesitatingly asks direct questions on-site, he captures the fresh ambition of a novice reporter, while switching to a sharper gaze and firm voice when expressing his judgments to highlight the character's assertive side. Notably, in scenes alongside senior reporter Jae-hwan (played by Park Hae-il), Lee captures Young-il's lively personality by fluidly moving between sly charm and seriousness through subtly changing expressions and reactions depending on his scene partner.

​Above all, Lee Min-ho focused on immersing himself in the 1974 era and the character of Young-il rather than relying on his existing star image. While tracking a heavy case, he maintains his trademark free-spirited vibe, yet abruptly shifts his gaze and tone the moment he confronts a mystery, capturing deep immersion in the investigation. Viewing Young-il as a "live-fish-like character," Lee Min-ho brought energy to the role through active, unreserved movements on-site. From a free-spirited nature to a reporter's tenacity in pursuing facts to the end, he naturally balanced contrasting traits to convincingly complete the character.

​Lee Min-ho has long established a global fandom, positioning himself as a representative actor of K-culture. In the "2026 Overseas Hallyu Survey" released last March by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE), he ranked No. 1 as the most preferred Korean actor among Hallyu fans worldwide for 13 consecutive years.

​This global influence was reconfirmed at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The Assassin(s) was officially invited to the Gala Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival for its world premiere. A total of 4,256 seats prepared across all screenings were completely sold out, and the film was named Runner-Up for the International People's Choice Award following its world premiere. Furthermore, Lee Min-ho's official conversation event, the "In Conversation With..." (ICW) session, also sold out instantly upon ticket opening, proving the strong local enthusiasm for the actor.

​Lee Min-ho has expanded his acting spectrum by taking on different genres and characters with each project. In Pachinko, he showcased a new side as the self-made businessman Hansu, and in When the Stars Gossip, he oscillated between seriousness and humor as Gong Ryong, an obstetrician-gynecologist and space tourist. In the film Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, he demonstrated action skills and restrained emotional expression as the formidable Yoo Joong-hyuk, before transforming into a rookie reporter in a period drama with The Assassin(s).

​Having widened his acting range across diverse genres and roles, Lee Min-ho has once again successfully brought a new character to life, raising anticipation for what his next acting transformation will bring.
