We met up in Miami, where Jeleel pulled up in his car to pick me up. The two of us drifted through the city streets in the early evening light. Just 8 months ago, he packed up his life in Los Angeles and moved here, a change of scenery, but not a change of pace.

My first impression of him was nothing like his explosive stage persona. Offstage, Jeleel is calm, measured, and understated. Before meeting me, he had already finished a studio session with his producers, hit the gym, grabbed some food, and checked in with his homies. His day moves in clean, disciplined lines, a life that runs with intention.

“Dive In,” the track that took off in 2021, shifted everything for him. It’s the song that rerouted the trajectory of his entire career. Jeleel doesn’t hide the fact that social media changed his life. It has been a constant presence from the very beginning. TikTok, Instagram, the daily rhythm of posting, promoting, building. For him, it’s not something to try, it’s just part of the work. He pushes out content every day, always championing his music, always betting on himself.

What’s striking is how bulletproof his confidence is. He doesn’t let negative comments land. They don’t touch his ego, and they definitely don’t shape his creativity. That kind of inner steel, the unshakeable, tunnel-vision belief, is exactly what someone on a long road to success needs.

And then there’s the part of his story no one sees coming: before music, Jeleel was fighting in the UFC pipeline, training to become a professional fighter. No matter which lane he chose, he was always a hustler, someone who refuses to stop sharpening himself, pushing further, leveling up.

While the world knows the wild, high-energy Jeleel who flips onstage and screams his name at the top of his lungs, the version I saw in Miami was different - steady, thoughtful, grounded. His rise isn’t accidental. He’s always known this day would come, and he’s fully aware that he’s nowhere near done.

What looks like chance is built on quiet, unstoppable effort. Jeleel reminds me of this all over again.
