라이징 스타 코스모시는 이제 아시아를 넘어 전 세계에 이름을 알리고 있다. 지난해 4월 11일 공식 데뷔 이후 일본, 한국, 태국 등지의 다양한 행사와 페스티벌 무대에 오르며 활동을 이어온 이들은 최근 디자이너 알렉산더 왕의 초청으로 뉴욕 패션 위크에 참석했다. 예술 집단 MSCHF와 함께 하는 문화 기관 ‘더 왕 컨템포러리(The Wang Contemporary)’의 그랜드 오프닝을 하루 앞두고, <롤링스톤 코리아>는 코스모시를 만나 그동안의 활동과 다음 앨범에 관한 이야기를 나눴다.

1. [RSK] 만나서 반가워요, 코스모시! 먼저 <롤링스톤 코리아> 독자들을 위해 멤버별로 간단한 자기소개 부탁해요. 

카미온: 안녕하세요, 코스모시의 카미온(kamión)이에요. 저는 말하는 것도, 노래하는 것도 좋아하고 밝은 에너지를 가지고 있어요. 만나서 반가워요!

에이메이: 저는 막내 에이메이(a’mei)예요. 코스모시의 ‘폭발적인 에너지’를 맡고 있어요!

히메샤: 안녕하세요, 히메샤(himesha)예요! 팀에서 시크하고 미스터리한 매력을 맡고 있어요.

디하나: 저는 ‘화이트 모찌 래빗’ 디하나(de_hana)예요. 깊은 목소리와 무대의 존재감을 가지고 있어요.


2. [RSK] 오늘 뉴욕 알렉산더 왕 플래그십 스토어에서 함께하고 있어요. MSCHF와 함께 하는 더 왕 컨템포러리의 그랜드 오프닝을 앞두고 디자이너에게 직접 스타일링을 받은 소감은 어땠나요?

디하나: 아직도 믿기지 않아요. 원래 패션을 정말 좋아했는데, 지금은 더 좋아하게 됐어요!

히메샤: 고등학생 때부터 좋아하던 브랜드라서 정말 큰 영광이에요!

카미온: 정말 멋진 경험이었어요! 저는 평소에 여성스러운 스타일을 좋아하는데, 알렉산더 왕의 무드가 제 취향이랑 잘 맞았어요. 정말 마음에 들었어요.

에이메이: 알렉산더를 직접 만나고 스타일링까지 받을 수 있어서 너무 감사하고 행복해요!

3. [RSK] 코스모시는 ‘COSMOS of Youth’의 약자로 끝없는 가능성과 끊임없이 확장하는 우주를 상징하죠. 지금은 어떤 단계의 ‘우주’에 와 있다고 느끼나요? 

히메샤: 이제 막 시작 단계예요. 우주처럼 아직 보여줄 게 정말 많아서, 계속 열심히 노력할 거예요!

디하나: 코스모시는 아직 시작점에 있어요. 별 옆의 달처럼, 이제 막 떠오르고 있는 단계라고 생각해요.

카미온: 우리의 우주는 계속 커지고 있어요! 오늘 알렉산더 왕에게 패션에 대해 많이 배우면서 꿈에 한 발 더 가까워진 느낌이에요.

에이메이: 매일 새로운 걸 배우고, 조금씩 레벨업하고 있어요.

4. [RSK] 네 멤버 모두 일본 출신이지만 한국에서 트레이닝을 받았고, 여러 언어로 활동하며 글로벌 팝 시장의 새로운 흐름을 보여주고 있어요. 코스모시가 전하고 싶은 음악은 어떤 음악인가요?

디하나: 음악에는 국경이 없다고 생각해요. 저희는 한국어, 영어, 일본어를 섞어서 사용하는데, 어디에서 왔든 누구와도 연결되고 싶기 때문이에요. 그래서 저희의 노래가 여러분에게 가깝게 느껴졌으면 좋겠어요.

5. [RSK] 코스모시로 함께 활동하면서 아티스트로서 어떤 성장을 경험했나요?
 

히메샤: 저는 세 살 때부터 춤을 췄지만, 노래는 제 강점이 아니었어요. 멤버들이 많이 응원해 줬고, 제 목소리를 표현하는 새로운 방법을 배우게 됐어요.

카미온: 저는 한국어를 잘해요. 그래서 한국에서 생활할 때 멤버들을 언어적으로 많이 도와줘요. 예를 들면, 안무 수업에서 선생님이 말씀하시는 걸 일본어로 통역해 주기도 해요.

에이메이: 항상 같이 생활하다 보니 팀워크에 대해 정말 많이 배웠어요. 저희는 서로 최대한 많이 도와주려고 해요.

6. [RSK] 프리 데뷔 싱글 <zigy=zigy>를 공개한 후, 데뷔 싱글 <Lucky=One>을 발매했어요. 이 곡들에 어떤 메시지를 담고 싶었나요?

디하나: <zigy=zigy>는 힘든 이별 후의 혼란스러운 감정을 담은 곡이에요. 가사에는 “헤어지고 싶지 않아”라고 나오지만, 사실은 ‘지고 싶지 않아’라는 의미도 담겨 있어요. 사람들이 포기하지 않고 계속 나아가길 바라는 마음을 전하고 싶었어요.

히메샤: <Lucky=One>은 우연히 만났지만 운명처럼 느껴지는 사람에 관한 이야기예요. 저희에게는 만나는 모든 팬이 가장 큰 행운이에요!

7. [RSK] 첫 EP였던 [the a(e)nd]는 여섯 가지 감각의 각 측면을 다루고 있는데요. 각자가 애정하는 곡 한 가지와 그 이유를 듣고 싶어요.
 

카미온: 저는 <zigy=zigy>를 가장 좋아해요. 코러스가 정말 중독성 있어서 계속 반복해서 듣게 돼요! 우리를 잘 대표하는 곡이라고 생각해요.

에이메이: 제가 가장 좋아하는 곡은 <Princess=Kiss>예요. 곡의 분위기와 안무가 정말 좋아요. 뮤직비디오는 LA에서 촬영했는데, 수영하는 장면도 있어서 정말 재미있었어요.

히메샤: 저도 <Princess=Kiss>를 좋아해요. 백 비트가 정말 멋있고, 계속 반복해서 듣고 싶어지는 곡이에요!

디하나: 저는 <Lucky=One>이요. 가사는 자신감을 표현하면서도 감성적인 면이 있고, 제 깊은 목소리를 보여줄 수 있는 곡이에요. 애니메이션 스타일의 뮤직비디오도 정말 좋아해요!

8. [RSK] <BabyDon’tCry=BreakingTheLove>나 <Physics ~ 物理的な ~>는 복잡한 사랑의 성격을 솔직하게 풀어내잖아요. 이를 전달할 때 특별히 신경 쓰는 부분이 있나요?
 

카미온: <BabyDon'tCry=BreakingTheLove>는 강렬한 곡이라서 제 안의 힘을 보여주려고 해요. 그리고 <Physics ~ Physical ~>에서는 사랑에 빠질 때처럼 부드럽고 설레는 느낌을 표현하려고 해요.

히메샤: 가사를 충분히 이해한 뒤에, 무대에서 어떤 표정과 제스처가 어울릴지 생각해요. 그리고 그 모든 요소가 자연스럽게 연결되도록 신경 써요.

9. [RSK] 뉴욕 스포티파이 본사 공연부터 한국, 태국, 일본의 페스티벌 무대까지, 벌써 다양한 국적의 관객을 만나왔어요. 가장 기억에 남은 순간은 언제인가요?

히메샤: 일본 <도쿄 걸즈 컬렉션(Tokyo Girls Collection, TGC)> 패션 페스티벌이에요. 어릴 때부터 알고 있던 행사라서 꿈이 이뤄진 순간이었어요. 그리고 부모님이 처음으로 저희 무대를 보러 오셨거든요. 그래서 절대 잊지 못할 순간이에요.

디하나: LA에서 열린 <애니메 엑스포(Anime Expo)>요! 관객들의 함성이 정말 크고 에너지가 넘쳤어요. 공연이 끝난 뒤에도 많은 분들이 저희를 보러 와서 잘했다고 말해줘서 정말 감동이었어요.

10. [RSK] 데뷔 초 무대와 지금의 무대를 비교했을 때 달라진 점이 있다면요?

히메샤: 예전에는 표정 표현이 단순했는데, 지금은 무대에서 더 복합적인 감정을 보여줄 수 있게 됐어요.

카미온: 카메라를 훨씬 빨리 찾을 수 있게 됐고, 무대에서도 훨씬 자연스러워졌어요!

디하나: 저는 뮤지컬을 했어서 처음에는 팝 스타일로 노래하는 법을 잘 몰랐어요. 하지만 다양한 스타일로 소화할 수 있도록 많이 연습했어요.

에이메이: 처음에는 정말 많이 긴장했는데, 지금은 자신감이 생겼어요. 무대를 진심으로 즐기는 법을 배웠어요!

11. [RSK] 3월 발매 예정인 또 다른 EP [of the world]에서는 어떤 모습을 보여주고 싶나요?

히메샤: 우리가 누구인지 탐구하는 여정을 보여주고 싶어요. 저희는 학생, 아이돌, 그리고 요괴 몬스터라는 세 가지 정체성을 가지고 있어요. 음악적으로는 1999년의 향수를 담은 사운드와 2026년의 현대적인 바이브를 결합했어요.

 

12. [RSK] 마지막으로 <롤링스톤 코리아> 독자들에게 전하고 싶은 이야기를 들려주세요.

디하나: 오늘 초대해 주셔서 감사해요. 다음 앨범도 많이 사랑해 주세요! 기대해 주세요.

Japanese Girl Group cosmosy Express Themselves Through Music and Style During NYFW

Rising stars cosmosy are making their names known not only in Asia, but the entire world. Following their official debut on April 11th last year and performances at various events and festivals across Japan, Korea, and Thailand, the girl group recently made an appearance at NYFW after receiving an invite from acclaimed designer Alexander Wang. A day before The Wang Contemporary grand opening event with MSCHF, Rolling Stone Korea sat down with cosmosy to discuss their career so far and what their next album might have in store.

[RSK] Nice to meet you cosmosy! Can we start with a quick introduction from each member for Rolling Stone Korea readers? 

kamión: Hi, I'm Kamión from cosmosy. I love talking and singing, and I have bright energy. Glad to meet you!

a’mei: I’m A'mei, the youngest. I'm the ‘energy burst’ of cosmosy!

himesha: Hi everyone, I'm Himesha! I’m the chic, mysterious one of the group.

de_Hana: I'm De_Hana, the ‘white mochi rabbit.’ I have a deep voice and stage presence. 

[RSK] Today we are here with you at the Alexander Wang flagship store in New York City. What was it like getting personally styled by the designer before The Wang Contemporary grand opening event with MSCHF?

de_Hana: I still can't believe it. I’ve always loved fashion, and now I love it even more!

himesha: I’ve loved this brand since high school, so it’s a huge honor! 

kamión: It was amazing! I usually like feminine styles, and Alexander Wang has my kind of vibe. I really loved it. 

a’mei: I'm so thankful and happy to have met and gotten dressed by Alexander!

[RSK] The name cosmosy stands for ‘COSMOS of Youth' - to imagine endless possibilities and constantly expand your universe. What stage of this universe do you feel like you’re in now?

himesha: We are just starting. And like the mysteries of space, we still have a lot to show, so we will keep working hard to do so!

de_Hana: As cosmosy, we are only at the beginning. I think that like the moon next to the stars, we’re still rising. 

kamión: Our universe is growing! And since we got to learn a lot about fashion from Alexander Wang today, it feels like we moved one step closer to our dream. 

a’mei: Every day we get to learn new things and level up little by little. 

[RSK] While all four of you are originally from Japan, you trained in Korea and have activities in multiple languages, marking a new trend in the global pop world. What kind of music does cosmosy aim to share?

de_Hana: When it comes to music, we don't have any borders. We mix Korean, English, and Japanese because we want to connect with everyone no matter where they’re from. We hope our song can feel close to you. 

[RSK] In what ways have working together as cosmosy helped you all grow as an artist?

himesha: I've been dancing since I was 3 years old, but singing wasn't my strongest point. The members definitely helped encourage me, and I have learned new ways to express my voice. 

kamión: I'm good at speaking Korean. So while living in Korea, I support our members a lot with the language. For example: during dance lessons, I translate what the teachers are saying into Japanese.

a’mei: Since we live together all the time, I've learned a lot about teamwork. We always help each other as much as we can.

[RSK] After releasing the pre-debut track “<zigy=zigy>,” you came out with your debut single “<Lucky=One>.” What kind of message did you want to convey with these songs?

de_Hana: The literal meaning of  “<zigy=zigy>” is about confusing feelings after a painful breakup. The lyrics say, “I don't want to break up” - But the real meaning is that ‘I don't want to lose.’ We want to help people not give up and keep going. 

himesha: “<Lucky=One>” is about meeting someone by chance, but feeling like it was meant to be. For us, every fan we meet is our greatest luck!

[RSK] Your first EP [the a(e)nd] deals with each aspect of the six senses. What is one song that each of you loves and why?

kamión: I like “<zigy=zigy>” the best. The chorus is catchy and I can listen to it over and over! I think it represents us. 

a’mei: My favorite song is “Princess=Kiss.” I love the vibe and choreography. We filmed the music video in LA, and I got to have a swimming scene. It was so much fun. 

himesha: I like “Princess=Kiss” too. The back beat is so cool, and I just want to listen to it on repeat!

de_Hana: For me, it's “<Lucky=One>.” The lyrics express confidence but are also emotional, and I get to showcase my deep voice. I also love the anime style music video!

[RSK] “<BabyDon'tCry=BreakingTheLove>” and “<Physics ~ Physical ~>” candidly unravel the complex nature of love. Is there anything you pay special attention to when expressing these emotions?

kamión: “<BabyDon'tCry=BreakingTheLove>” is powerful, so I try to show my strength. And for “<Physics ~ Physical ~>,” I try to portray a more soft and exciting feeling, like falling in love.
 

himesha: After going through the lyrics, I think about what expressions and gestures feel right on stage and how to connect it all together.

[RSK] From the New York Spotify headquarters performance to festival stages in Korea, Thailand, and Japan, you have already been able to perform for audiences in many countries. What has been your most memorable moment?

himesha: TGC (the Tokyo Girls Collection fashion festival) in Japan. It was a dream come true because I’ve known about that event since I was a child, and also my parents came to see us for the first time! So I will never forget that moment. 

de_Hana: Anime Expo in LA! The crowd was so loud and energetic. After the show, so many people came up to see us and told us we did great!

[RSK] What are the differences when comparing your stages from the beginning/near your debut and how your performances are now?

himesha: My facial expressions used to be really simple, but now I can show more complex emotions on stage.

kamión: I can spot the cameras much faster and I look a lot more comfortable!

de_Hana: I used to do musicals, so I didn’t know how to sing in the pop style. But I practiced hard so that I can sing in a wide variety of styles!

a’mei: I was very nervous at first, but now I have more confidence. I learned how to really enjoy myself on stage!

[RSK] What do you want to show in your next EP [of the world] that will be released in March?

himesha: We want to show the journey of exploring who we are. We have three different identities: a student, an idol, and a yokai monster. Musically, we combined the nostalgic sound of 1999, and modern vibes of 2026.

[RSK] Finally, is there anything else you would like to share with Rolling Stone Korea readers?

de_Hana: Thank you for having us today. I hope you love the next album! Please look forward to it.
