RSK: Pablo, what a joy it is to have you here. I am deeply moved and sincerely honored — you have no idea how many years I’ve waited for this moment. It is a true privilege to welcome you to <Rolling Stone Korea>. I was watching one of your interviews and noticed that you haven’t visited Asia yet, but we hope to be that bridge so your immense talent and your light can shine on this side of the world as well.
Pablo Alborán: Thank you so much, my love. I’m happy to — whenever you want, I’ll go.
RSK: Pablo, first of all, thank you for your time. We know you’re in the midst of promoting your new album and that your schedule is intense, so having you with us at <Rolling Stone Korea> is an absolute honor. You’re a profoundly fascinating artist, one of those who transcend generations and borders with a unique sensitivity. Since our audience in Asia is eager to learn more about you, I’d like to begin with an essential question: who is, at your core, Pablo Alborán, the artist?
Pablo Alborán: Thank you, Camila. It’s an immense pleasure to be here. I’m an artist from Málaga, born in the south of Spain, with French roots on my mother’s side — a blend I carry in my blood and that shapes the way I feel and create. I’m inspired by diversity, cultural nuances, and melodies that rise from the most human emotions. Since I was young, music has been my refuge: I began singing and playing guitar and piano at seven, and I started writing songs when I was still a child. At twenty-one I released my first album, without imagining everything that would come afterward. Today, with my seventh album, I feel I’m still on a journey of discovery — learning, reinventing myself, and above all, seeking to connect hearts through my songs.
RSK: Pablo, to talk about multiculturalism in your case is to speak of a bridge that connects sensibilities, languages, and hearts. You’ve achieved something very few artists manage: transcending language and communicating through the purest emotion. Carrying that banner can’t be easy. How do you experience the responsibility of creating music that feels universal?
Pablo Alborán: For me, everything begins with emotion. If something doesn’t move me, I can’t do it. Authenticity comes from there — from allowing yourself to be pierced by what you create. When a song makes me vibrate, when it carries a message that reminds me why I’m alive, I know there is truth. After that, the rest no longer belongs to me. I can prepare, take care of my voice, my body, and my mind, but what happens when the music reaches people is something beyond my control. I just hope they feel what I felt when I wrote it.
RSK: [KM0] feels profoundly intimate, almost like a return to the origin. It’s a mature, honest album—one that goes straight to the soul. I had the chance to listen to it in full, and it moved me deeply. For those of us in our thirties, there’s a kind of emotional vertigo born from the world’s speed, technology, and the subtle dehumanization of time. Yet in this album, you strip away all artifice: you’re vulnerable, sincere, and you reconnect with what is essential. How was this project born, and what did it represent for you personally and artistically?
Pablo Alborán: [KM0] is, without a doubt, one of the most personal and transformative albums of my life. It was very difficult for me to finish—not only because of the work behind it, but because of everything it meant on an emotional level. It was born from a very painful moment for my family, but also from immense hope: the recovery of a loved one thanks to a donation and a bone marrow transplant. That experience changed our lives; it made us see the world differently.
When I began writing again, I felt that every note and every word was a way of giving thanks, of understanding, of celebrating life. That is what this album is: an homage to the human being—to fragility and strength, to love in all its forms. It speaks of heartbreak, yes, but also of spirituality, of what we cannot control, of what transcends us.
Musically, it’s a very free journey, an exploration without labels. I allowed myself to experiment, to play, to breathe inside the studio. It’s an album born from freedom and, above all, from the need to heal.
RSK: How beautiful, Pablo, and thank you for sharing it with such honesty. Let me confess something personal: my mom was the first at home to listen to you—she used to say, “he sounds so good, he sings so beautifully.” I discovered you in college, and I remember hearing you speak once about dignity and the importance of respecting oneself. From that moment on, I stayed with you. I admire your courage to speak from vulnerability and to transform pain into art. How does it feel to see your music become part of the emotional processes of those who listen to you—almost like catharsis, or a companion in moments of introspection?
Pablo Alborán: Thank you, truly. It means so much. For me, writing is a release, a form of healing. It’s my way of communicating with the world, of building bridges with those who listen to me and even with those who don’t share my language or my story.
Music has that power: it crosses what separates us and reminds us that, in the end, we all feel the same things. It’s beautiful to see how it unites people of different places, ages, and cultures. Music is a refuge—it’s a universal language where we all recognize ourselves. And in that space, I also find myself, understand myself, and feel part of something bigger than me.
RSK: Recently, you took part in Billboard’s Latin Music Week, a space that celebrates diversity and the transformative power of music. I would love to know how you experienced that moment and what it meant for you to reconnect with colleagues so important along your journey.
Pablo Alborán: It was an intense week, full of emotions and beautiful reunions. Crossing paths again with Julio Reyes and Rosa, an extraordinary Filipino-Cuban artist, was very special. This year has been full of moments like that: unique collaborations, musical encounters that expand your soul. The fact that platforms like Billboard exist—bringing together artists, producers, and songwriters from all over the world—is something I value deeply.
Julio, in particular, is a pillar in my career. He’s one of the few producers capable of understanding me even when I show up with ideas that are a little crazy (laughs). We always find the balance—the exact point where emotion and technique embrace. He’s an exceptional travel companion and a friend I admire immensely.
RSK: What an inspiring bond, Pablo. And well, [KM0] had its first preview this past September 23rd. It was incredibly moving to witness that release, especially because just days before, you were in Colombia for such a beautiful and gracious event, one that left the world amazed by the humility with which you visited a small city—one full of dreams and talent.
Pablo Alborán: It was a profoundly moving experience. We were in Ibagué, in the heart of Tolima, and also in New York, but Colombia… Colombia has something that touches your soul. There, I spent time with young musicians who live for music, who rehearse with passion even when life doesn’t always give them a break. That dedication, that faith in art, teaches you so much.
Seeing them smile, sing, feel excited… it was like seeing the purest reflection of why I do what I do. That energy heals you, wakes you up. I returned to Spain with my soul alight and with the certainty that music, when it’s born from the heart, knows no borders. And yes—long live Colombia, always—for its warmth, its people, and that invisible embrace you take with you.
RSK: All across Latin America, we love you deeply, Pablo. You’re an artist who has truly earned our hearts—and no one would ever dispute that. I’m certain that when that cultural encounter with South Korea finally happens, you’ll fall in love with the talent Asia has to offer, and Korea will fall in love with you. You have something very special: you’re timeless. Everyone connects with you in a different way. We know your tour begins next year in Chile—can we dream of seeing you in Asia soon? Korea, Japan, Thailand, perhaps…
Pablo Alborán: It would be a dream come true. I would love to visit Korea, Japan, Thailand… I’ve always felt a deep admiration for Asia—for its culture, its sensitivity, and the way they live music. On this album, I had the chance to collaborate with a wonderful Japanese artist, and it was magical to see how two such different worlds can intertwine through art. The tour will begin in February in Chile, then we’ll travel through the Southern Cone, Mexico, Colombia, Spain, the United States, and Europe. It will be a long journey, full of work, but also reunions, hugs, and gratitude. In the end, everything I do makes sense when I look back at the audience and feel that invisible connection only music can create. I would truly love it. Please—take me to Asia. (laughs)
I’m deeply fascinated by it. There is a mystique within Japanese folklore—and Asian folklore in general—that moves me. Everything ethnic carries an ancestral strength that inspires me. When you explore the musical traditions of the world, you discover that, at the core, all cultures speak to each other—that we share the same essence. Flamenco, for instance, breathes Arab roots, and the pentatonic scales of Asia possess a similar spirituality, almost like siblings. It’s as if every sound in the world extends a hand to another, reminding us that music is an invisible bridge uniting us beyond time and distance.
RSK: Absolutely. And I love that you say that, because the Korean music industry—K-pop—carries a lot of that spirit: discipline, connection, respect for the art. And that’s exactly what most fascinates Korean artists about us: our spontaneity. They’re amazed by that ability to flow without overplanning, to let emotion be the one that speaks.
Pablo Alborán: Yes, it’s truly an admirable phenomenon. I’m captivated by the way they work: the precision, the commitment, the almost spiritual pursuit of perfection. There is a harmony in their discipline that inspires me deeply. And at the same time, I think we Hispanics have something unique: that spontaneity that bursts from the soul, that emotion you can’t rehearse. When those two worlds meet—technique and passion, restraint and overflow—something magical happens.
(Laughs) Although I must admit our spontaneity sometimes overflows a bit, doesn’t it? But that’s beautiful too. I have a Thai friend who always tells me about that rigorous dedication they have over there, even from a young age. They train technique with a love and consistency that is admirable. It’s a different concept of art, but one that is profoundly respectful. And I find it wonderful to learn from that—from that commitment that turns every gesture into an act of art.
RSK: Exactly—and that also means there are very different strengths between both cultures.
Pablo Alborán: Yes, and that’s the beautiful part. When those two ways of understanding music intersect, the result can be truly magical.
RSK: Let’s talk about your Netflix series, a facet that pleasantly surprised many. Those of us who follow your career know that your level of dedication is absolute—that you dive into each project with admirable sensitivity and discipline. And this time, beyond being an artistic challenge, it was also a deeply transformative personal experience. Portraying a plastic surgeon, stepping into that universe of precision and humanity… that couldn’t have been easy. How did you experience that preparation process, and what did this very different journey from music leave you with emotionally?
Pablo Alborán: It was, without a doubt, one of the most intense and revealing journeys of my life. Acting forced me to let go of control, to listen differently, and to connect with emotions from a more instinctive place. In the series, I play a plastic surgeon, and that led me to explore the duality between technique and empathy—between external perfection and the inner fragility of the human being. Before filming, I spent time in hospitals, attended real surgeries, observed how doctors communicate, how they move, how they choose each word and each silence. I discovered that there is a deeply emotional nonverbal language in their work—a compassion that coexists with precision.
From day one, I felt embraced by a wonderful team: the directors, the screenwriters, the cast, and of course Netflix, who believed in me and supported me every step of the way. I had studied acting for years, waiting for a project that would truly shake me, and this one did in every sense. It allowed me to understand that acting, like music, is also a way to heal and to tell truths from another angle. It was an immense challenge, but also a celebration of life, art, and that human need to step into someone else’s skin to understand each other better.
RSK: And you achieved it with the dedication and authenticity that define you. Your performance was so natural that it feels like the beginning of a new artistic chapter. Would you like to continue exploring acting?
Pablo Alborán: Absolutely, I would love to. There is already a project on the table—I hope it becomes a reality soon. I discovered acting a bit later in my life, but I believe it’s never too late when it comes to doing something you’re passionate about. It’s an art that challenges me, teaches me, and allows me to see the world from different perspectives. I’ll keep training, studying, and growing because I truly love it.
RSK: That’s wonderful. Now tell us what’s next for you, especially thinking of the Asian audience who follows you and admires you so much.
Pablo Alborán: After the series and the release of [KM0], I’m fully focused on the tour. I want it to be an unforgettable experience, with a strong repertoire, an extraordinary band, and a production that moves people from the very first chord. My hope is that even from Korea, people will feel that energy and say: “We need to bring this artist here.”
RSK: That would be incredible! And speaking of Korea—if you could collaborate with a South Korean or K-pop artist, who would you like to work with?
Pablo Alborán: It would be a dream. A collaboration between a Spanish and a Korean artist hasn’t happened yet, but I would love to see that become a reality. For me, the most important thing would be to do it authentically, not strategically. Before collaborating, I’d want to truly understand how Korean music is built—where their inspiration comes from, what stories they tell, what sounds move them. If I travel to Korea or Japan—and you promise to be my guide—I want to absorb everything, understand their roots, their essence… and from there, allow both worlds to meet with truth and respect.
RSK: Promised, Pablo (laughs). It would be an honor to accompany you on that journey. And I’m sure that when it happens, it will become a beautiful bridge between cultures—one that connects sensitivities through the universal language of music. To close, I want you to tell me how you experienced the emotion of receiving the Medalla de Andalucía. It was a deeply symbolic recognition, not only for your career but also for what you represent to an entire generation of Spanish-speaking artists.
Pablo Alborán: It was a very emotional moment. Receiving the Medalla de Andalucía is one of the greatest honors I’ve had in my life. It’s a recognition that transcends the artistic realm because it represents my land, my people, my roots. Andalucía is part of my deepest identity: its light, its way of feeling, its way of telling life through art.
I feel a beautiful responsibility carrying its name with me around the world, and it moves me to think that my music can reflect that spirit. There are artists with enormous careers whom I admire deeply, so receiving it made me feel a mix of gratitude and humility. It also inspires me to keep defending authenticity. I love when I hear a Korean song or a Colombian rhythm and instantly recognize its essence, its root. For someone to listen to my music and feel the soul of Andalucía—that warmth that defines us—is the greatest gift I could receive.
RSK: And the beautiful thing is that this essence of yours—your warmth and genuine humanity—crosses every border. You’ve managed to make your art feel close even in cultures so different from your own. Before we say goodbye, I’d like to ask you for a message for all those young Asian and Hispanic artists who admire you, who dream of building a path based on honesty and love for what they do. And, of course, we hope to make that meeting of worlds between your art and our audience at <Rolling Stone Korea> a reality very soon—they’re already waiting for you with an open heart.
Pablo Alborán: Thank you, truly. It moves me deeply to know that my music is reaching Korea and that you’re helping me expand that cultural bridge. I hope this article touches the hearts of <Rolling Stone Korea>’s audience, because it was made with respect, admiration, and the desire to connect.
