From Seoul’s Underground to Peggy Gou’s Gudu Records: DJ co.kr Unveils ‘After School’
South Korean producer and DJ DJ co.kr has released his new EP, After School, through Gudu Records, the label founded by internationally acclaimed DJ and producer Peggy Gou. Rooted in the sounds of the UK underground, the four-track project marks another significant chapter in his journey from Seoul’s club circuit to the global electronic music scene.
Released on October 29, After School brings together UK bass, breakbeat, house, and UK garage, reflecting the musical influences DJ co.kr has explored throughout his career. Drawing on the rhythms of Baltimore club and dubwise sensibilities, the EP reinterprets established club sounds through his distinctive production style, balancing raw dancefloor energy with intricate sampling and rhythmic experimentation.
The collaboration with Gudu Records began with an unexpected opportunity. After Peggy Gou shared the label’s official demo submission email on Instagram, DJ co.kr sent over his music along with a carefully organized collection of artist biographies, track information, press materials, and previous releases.
When the two later met at a brand event, Gou personally complimented his approach, describing it as one of the most thoughtfully prepared demo submissions she had received. The following day, DJ co.kr received an official response from Gudu Records, setting the collaboration in motion.
The four-track EP features a diverse lineup of collaborators, connecting different generations and styles of electronic music. Opening track “EECC” brings together DJ co.kr’s longtime collaborator h4rdy and South Korean vocalist Lee Yoon Jung, known for her influential work with Pippi Band and EE. Her distinctive vocal presence adds another dimension to the track’s heavy UK-influenced house production.
“Broken Phone” and the previously released “Murda Dancing” highlight DJ co.kr’s sharp sampling techniques and rhythmic instincts, while closing track “House Today,” a collaboration with Gudu Records artist Bryson Hill, rounds out the project with a house-driven sound.
Reflecting on the release, DJ co.kr expressed his excitement at seeing a small musical idea evolve into an EP released through a label he had long admired. He also emphasized that creating music is only part of an artist’s journey; the preparation, presentation, and seriousness with which opportunities are approached can be just as important.
He further acknowledged Peggy Gou’s influence on his career, describing how her success in the European electronic music scene had inspired him as a fellow Korean artist. Beyond her international recognition, he expressed particular admiration for her efforts to create opportunities for emerging Korean underground musicians through the platform she has established.
A member of AREA X and the founder and curator of Seoul-based party brand Ghetto-Ray, DJ co.kr has spent more than a decade contributing to the city’s underground club culture. Through his work at venues such as Cakeshop and Club Modeci, he has helped introduce and develop UK bass, breaks, and garage sounds within South Korea’s electronic music landscape.
His collaborations with UK artists including Riko Dan, Killa P, and Lady Lykez, particularly through the SOUNDBWOY series, have further strengthened his connection with the international underground scene.
More recently, his music gained attention when British producer Fred again.. played “Ill E Sam Sa,” a collaboration between DJ co.kr and h4rdy, at the Big Smoke Festival in the UK. During the performance, grime artists Skepta and JME delivered freestyle verses over the track, bringing his production to a wider international audience.
DJ co.kr has also received recognition from electronic music publication Mixmag and appeared across global platforms including Boiler Room, BBC Radio, NTS Radio, and HÖR Berlin. His creative activities extend beyond the club scene, encompassing collaborations with fashion and lifestyle brands such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel.
With After School, DJ co.kr continues to bridge Seoul’s underground identity with the wider global electronic music landscape. More than a new release, the EP reflects the growing dialogue between Korean producers and international club culture, demonstrating how distinctly local musical perspectives can find their place on the world stage.
As his creative journey continues to expand, After School stands as another expression of the artistic exchange shaping contemporary electronic music.
