정민은 쏜애플(THORNAPPLE)의 〈시퍼런 봄〉을 꼽았으며, 타이라는 마이클 잭슨(Michael Jackson)의 〈Rock with You〉를 선택하며 “’Cause I wanna rock with you”라는 재치 있는 한마디를 덧붙였다.
04. 〈Deep Dive〉
〈Deep Dive〉

Alice Syndrome: A New Chapter Beyond the Familiar
Powerful rock sounds, refined visuals, and four distinct personalities coming together to create a world of their own. Alice Syndrome, a four-piece all-female band, is carving out a distinctive identity by exploring the intersection of music and visual aesthetics.
Having made their debut last July with the single “Deep Dive,” Alice Syndrome consists of vocalist Taira, guitarist Awon, bassist Sebeen, and drummer Jeongmin. Blending the raw, unrestrained energy of indie rock with contemporary pop-rock production, the band extends its musical identity beyond sound, incorporating fashion and performance into a cohesive artistic language.
In an interview with Rolling Stone Korea, the four members revealed the individual personalities and musical influences that shape their collective identity. From their playful offstage dynamics to their personal sources of inspiration and ambitions for the future, the conversation offered a closer look at the four distinct personalities behind the world of Alice Syndrome.
01. Onstage Aesthetics, Four Personalities Beyond the Spotlight
One of Alice Syndrome’s defining qualities lies in the close relationship between sound and visual expression. Their sleek, runway-inspired silhouettes and refined high-fashion aesthetic go beyond mere styling, functioning as a visual language that brings their musical narrative to life.
Sebeen’s rhythm-driven bass movements, Awon’s expressive guitar performance, Jeongmin’s dynamic drumming, and Taira’s commanding stage presence each contribute to a cohesive visual identity. Together, they demonstrate how the raw energy of a live band can intersect with contemporary visual direction.
Offstage, however, the four reveal an entirely different side of themselves.
When asked which member would adapt most naturally to finding herself in Alice’s Wonderland, Awon and Taira both pointed to Jeongmin. Awon joked that even if Jeongmin suddenly found herself in a strange world, she would probably react with little more than a casual, “Oh, I’ve gotten smaller.”
Jeongmin, meanwhile, chose Taira, explaining that she occasionally makes the most unexpected remarks. Sebeen nominated Awon, revealing her amusing habit of listening to music alone late at night and spontaneously dancing whenever excitement takes over.
Sebeen herself emerged as the member with the most striking contrast between her onstage and offstage personas. According to Taira, while Sebeen exudes a cool, charismatic presence during performances, she becomes irresistibly adorable the moment she starts talking. The other members enthusiastically agreed.
Their playful exchanges, teasing revelations, and effortless laughter offered a glimpse into the genuine relationships behind the band’s carefully crafted visuals and powerful sound. Alice Syndrome’s appeal lies not only in the polished image they present onstage, but also in the contrasting personalities that bring that image to life.
02. Different Musical Influences, One Collective Sound
Another defining aspect of Alice Syndrome’s music is the balance between indie rock’s untamed spirit and meticulously crafted production.
The band’s sound engineering and arrangements reflect the expertise of seasoned producers whose work includes projects for artists such as BOL4. Punchy drums, a clean and defined low end, spacious guitar tones, and crisp vocal processing allow each instrument to retain its individuality while contributing to a cohesive, polished sound.
Their approach preserves the raw intensity of rock while embracing accessible melodies and carefully constructed hooks, offering a glimpse into the band’s broader musical direction.
At the heart of this sound are four musicians with distinctly different tastes.
When asked to name songs that best represent their lives, Sebeen chose Crying Nut’s “Circus Magic Wanderers,” explaining how the song draws her deeply into the world it creates. Awon selected “Blue Moon” by Korean indie band OOO, while Jeongmin named Seo Taiji’s “Internet War,” sharing that the track never fails to ignite her inner rock spirit. Taira, meanwhile, chose “HONEY” by L’Arc-en-Ciel, a song she has loved for years.
Their current playlists further revealed the diversity of their musical tastes. Sebeen expressed her longstanding affection for Vanilla Acoustic’s “We Need to Talk,” while Awon introduced “Ride or Die” by Ivan. Jeongmin selected “Blue Spring” by THORNAPPLE, and Taira chose Michael Jackson’s “Rock with You,” playfully adding, “’Cause I wanna rock with you.”
From the explosive energy of Korean rock and the emotional intensity of Japanese rock to the rhythms of pop and the delicate sensibilities of Korean indie music, the members’ playlists span generations and genres.
It is precisely at the intersection of these diverse influences that Alice Syndrome’s sound begins to take shape. Rather than forcing their individual musical identities into a single formula, the band allows each member’s distinctive sensibility to find its place within a shared sonic vision. This balance remains one of the most compelling aspects of their musical potential.
03. Four Symbols, One Alice Syndrome
The four members of Alice Syndrome share a symbolic identity built around the four playing-card suits: spades, hearts, clubs, and diamonds.
Just as four distinct suits belong to a single deck, the members bring their individual personalities and musical sensibilities together within the shared universe of Alice Syndrome.
This sense of identity extends beyond their performances, emerging naturally through the relationships between the members themselves.
When asked whose abilities they would borrow for a day, Awon chose Sebeen’s impressive height of 177 centimeters, while Sebeen expressed envy of Taira’s naturally muscular physique. Their laughter and lighthearted admiration for one another revealed a sense of closeness that contrasts with the intensity of their onstage personas.
Despite their clearly defined individual characters, the members embrace one another as parts of a unified whole. In many ways, this dynamic mirrors the musical harmony they pursue as a band.
Rather than confining four individuals to a single predetermined concept, Alice Syndrome connects their independent qualities through a shared artistic universe. It is this approach that makes the band’s identity all the more compelling.
04. Beyond “Deep Dive”: Toward a New Chapter
If their debut single “Deep Dive” marked the opening page of Alice Syndrome’s story last July, the band is now preparing to turn to the next chapter.
Although specific track titles and release dates have yet to be announced, Alice Syndrome is gearing up to continue developing its musical universe through a new release.
Their ambitions, meanwhile, extend far beyond the immediate horizon. When asked about their ultimate goal as a band, Awon confidently declared her dream of becoming the first Korean all-female band to perform at Coachella. The other members immediately joined in with an enthusiastic “Let’s go!”, expressing their shared determination.
Their aspiration to reach one of the world’s most prominent music festival stages represents more than an ambitious dream. It reflects a desire to bring their music to a wider international audience.
An artistic vision that moves fluidly between music, fashion, and performance. A distinctive balance between the unrestrained energy of indie rock and refined production. And the unpredictable chemistry created by four remarkably different individuals.
Rather than following the familiar conventions of a rock band, Alice Syndrome is gradually establishing a creative language of its own.
Having opened their story with “Deep Dive,” the band is now preparing to return with new music. As anticipation builds around their still-unrevealed next release, one question remains: How will these four distinct personalities evolve into a new sound and visual identity, and what kind of syndrome will Alice Syndrome create next?
