[And They Lived Happily Ever After]부터 최근 발표한 [The very first episode]에 이르기까지 으네의 손을 거치지 않은 앨범이 없기 때문이다.

최근 발매한 싱글 앨범 [The very first episode]에 대해 소개 부탁드립니다.

[The very first episode]

A Musical Self-Portrait UNE

UNE's MBTI is cute. She has chosen herself as the artist she respects the most at Dejavu Group. Much like her amazing musical universe, her playfulness and confidence are always on point. Dejavu recruited her because of her dance skills, but it turns out that she's also great at making music. This will allow BewhY to focus solely on his military service. He can do this because from her debut album, "And They Lived Happily Ever After," to her recently released "The very first episode," there is not a single album where she has not been an active participant. Her music universe has been described as a watercolor painting of a specific genre, but in fact, it's closer to being UNE's self-portrait. The fact that she writes lyrics in English is also noteworthy. This may be viewed as her ambition to enter the market of the birthplace of pop music. But, if you listen to her music, you understand that English lyrics are more fitting for her song ideas and vibe.

Rolling Stone Korea was able to sit down with this self-confident artist and find out the meaning behind her new songs, "Fake ID" and "Blooper," while talking about her work in music.

Hello, UNE. We're so happy to be able to meet you through this interview. Please briefly introduce yourself.

Hello, Rolling Stone Korea! It's UNE. Nice to meet you.

Please introduce your recently released album, "The very first episode.”

My recently released album "The very first episode" contains my story of creating the perfect ending through lots of trial-and-error.

Where did you get most of your inspiration for your single, double tracks, "Fake ID" and “Blooper?"

From my Producer, "no2zcat," who I often work with, we like to talk about movies and dramas on Netflix. We're also both fans of the American TV show Friends. So, we thought, "What if we made a song that would be fitting for Friends?" That's how "Fake ID" was made. Through the lyrics, I wanted to discuss things I agonize over, like how I always try to fit into a particular group. Then I end up asking myself, "What am I doing?" I have a lot of scars from trying to be someone I'm not. I tried to write lyrics with a new feel, thinking about those times.

Nowadays, when I meet people, I always tell them that I'm not a hip-hop/R&B artist. I'm a person who loves pop and electronic music. When I make songs, I get a lot of inspiration from electronic music and pop. I tried different attempts to integrate the popular melodies of “Zedd,” the experimental sounds of “Flume,” the humor of “Dwilly,” and the bright energy of “Young Franco.” In the end, this was how "Blooper" was created! "Fake ID" and "Blooper" were both arranged by "no2zcat" So, I got a lot of inspiration from him.

In "The very first episode," you primarily wrote the lyrics in English. Is there a reason for this?

My biggest goal is to become an international artist. Until now, I primarily wrote English lyrics to enter the global market and because English is the best language to express the feeling I want to produce. Not only that, but I also use English to stay fluent. Writing lyrics in English is an excellent way for me to study the language. In some of the songs I haven't released yet, there are even Japanese and French lyrics. I like to experiment a lot with different languages. I hope I'll be able to release songs that have Korean, English, Japanese, or even another language one day.

Recently, the compilation album you did with "Dingo" came out. What is the most memorable thing that happened while working on "Wrote this tomorrow?”

The process of choosing the name for the album and the list of songs for "Wrote this tomorrow" was enjoyable! The contenders for the album title included: Seongsan-dong Families, PG-13, Let's Work Lightly and Become Rich, and Synthetic Human BewhY. The original title for the second track was "2 burn!" It was named "2 burn(the sound of how it's read means "the second" in Korean)" because it was the second song. I'm glad that each title found its rightful place well. (Chuckle)

There's a dance routine where you groove to the rhythm in your "Fake ID" music video. We heard that you took hip-hop dance lessons when you were in elementary school. What does dance mean to you?

I think it's the only drug that our nation allows. (Chuckle) It's something inseparable from me. It's my identity. I can dance however I want, and it's the best activity to represent my feelings.

Now, as you work with many other artists, you're able to have more constructive conversations. While working on this album, what insight was most helpful to you, and when did you feel supported?

Whenever I work on my music, I always torture and stress myself out. I need to take more of a carrot-and-stick approach and reward myself more often. However, since I tend only to use the stick, there are times when I realize I am wearing myself down. "no2zcat," who worked with me on this album, has also been such a huge help. Because we've worked together for such a long time, he knows what I have trouble with. So, he knows what to say during those times and encourages me. He was such a big source of strength and comfort while working on this album.
