- Jason Mraz의 <YOU FCXN DID IT>을 주로 들었던 것 같아요.

Exploring The Glories of Life, Lee Mujin

Lee Mujin is an artist brimming with imagination. He has topped the charts by giving meaning to our everyday lives through songs like "Traffic light" and the "Homework Song." Even though he is famous for the viral "Hallway Video," appearing on TV and setting music records, he has not changed. All Lee Mujin does is focus on his music. Just like when a treasure becomes visible when it surfaces above the ground, Lee Mujin's musical assets and his level of confidence arose for all to see. Considering Mujin's age and where he is in his career, there is still a lot of treasures hidden in him. We didn't want to miss the opportunity to meet a rising star like Lee Mujin. Let's meet this jewel together with Rolling Stone Korea.

Hello. Lee Mujin, it's so nice to meet you in this interview with Rolling Stone Korea. Before we start, please introduce yourself, and say hello.

Hello, I'm Lee Mujin, a singer-songwriter who tells stories. I'm happy to be able to do this interview with Rolling Stone Korea!

Your song "Traffic light" has been thriving on music shows and charts. Is there someone you thought of or a moment that stands out the most while working on this song?

First, thank you so much to everyone who has loved my music. When I first wrote this song, I was a first-year university student. Although I didn't go to school much due to COVID-19, I remember observing students on the days I could attend. This helped me whenever I got stuck working on this song. The students are the narrators of this song. I remember getting new ideas from listening to people's daily conversations, what they're thinking these days, and planning to do.

You expressed feelings of affection in your album, "Scent of the Day," which was released August 26, 2021. The lyrics in "Scent of the Day" discuss the promise of being together forever with someone after confessing deep love for each other. It goes from the first meeting to arguments, separation, and reunion. Which part of this was most memorable for you?

The first words of the last C part are, "I'll carry it with me." We usually express our memories and the lessons we've learned as "I won't forget it" or "I'll remember it." The words "I'll carry it with my eyes" or "I'll carry it in my heart" may sound like literary expressions. But expressing "memories" of a shapeless thing such as "carrying" is rare. So, I thought it was original. The title is also "I'll Carry It With Me."

You became famous on social media through a video of you playing the guitar and singing in the Seoul Institute of the Arts hallway. This got you the nickname, "Seoul Institute of the Arts Hallway Boy." Are there any comments that you remember?

I vaguely remember a comment saying, "I guess Seoul Institute of the Arts only accepts geniuses." I don't know the exact wording, but the meaning was similar. The reason I remember that comment is because it's correct. (Chuckle) It might seem like I'm bragging. But, if you come to our school, man… I mean, I'm still wondering how I got accepted to that school.

A while ago, in a post on Instagram, we saw you crying on stage. Can you tell us what you were feeling at the time?

After the ending song of that concert, I came out on stage to perform the encore song. The sight of the audience, at that moment, was just so incredibly beautiful. While working on the top line and lyrics of the song "Poupelle of Chimney Town," I often wondered, "What would it be like to sing this song on stage?" When I turned around and cried; that day, the sight of everyone in the concert hall was just as I had imagined it.

We heard that YB's song "Blue Whale" gives you great comfort whenever you go through a slump trying to create a song. On the flip side, what music do you listen to when you feel happy?

I often listen to Jason Mraz's "YOU FCXN DID IT." I usually feel happy through my achievements. That song makes my accomplishments feel so much better. I remember listening to the song in the subway on repeat on my way home in early 2020. It was the day I received messages of acceptance from three different schools.
