Q. 헨리 영과 함께한 [Run] 작업은 어땠나요?
 

정말 멋진 경험이었어요. 헨리와 그의 팀 ROAR이 협업 제안을 하면서 <Run>의 프로덕션을 공유해 주셨는데, 듣자마자 많은 아이디어가 떠올랐습니다. 가사와 멜로디 방향에 대해 논의한 후 제가 작사를 시작했어요. 헨리는 훌륭한 감각을 가지고 있음과 동시에 제게 자유롭게 창작할 수 있도록 믿음을 주었고, 그 덕분에 특별한 작업이 될 수 있었습니다.
 

Q. 이 곡에서 가장 담고 싶었던 감정은 무엇인가요?
 

갈망, 혼란, 사랑, 그리고 조금은 절망적인 감정을 표현하고 싶었습니다. 겉으로 보기에는 완벽한 관계처럼 보이지만, 속으로는 아닌 걸 알 때가 있잖아요. 아무리 노력해도 같은 의문으로 되돌아오게 되는 그 감정의 순환을 담으려 했습니다.
 

Q. 보컬 녹음에서 가장 신경 쓴 부분은?
 

불확실함, 대답 없는 질문, 그리고 결국 내려야 하는 결심까지… 이런 복합적인 감정을 표현하는 데 집중했어요. 퍼포먼스가 솔직하고 분위기 있게 나오길 원했고, 듣는 분들이 캐릭터의 내적 갈등을 생생히 느낄 수 있기를 바랐습니다.

Q. <Run>의 이야기가 본인의 경험과도 연결되나요?
 

네, 그렇습니다. 저는 지금 13년째 행복한 결혼 생활을 하고 있지만, 젊었을 때는 맞지 않는 관계임을 알면서도 계속 이어가려 했던 경험이 있어요. 많은 분들이 서로가 안 된다는 걸 알면서도 끝까지 증명해 보려 애쓰곤 하잖아요. 제 주변 친구들 중에서도 비슷한 경험을 한 사람들이 많기도 하구요.
 

Q. 음악을 처음 시작하게 된 계기와 음악이 본인에게 갖는 의미는?
 

5학년 때 학교에서 기타 수업을 시작한 게 계기였어요. 곧 제 첫 기타를 갖게 되었고, 매일 연주하기 시작했죠. 교회 밴드에서 활동하면서도 많이 배웠고, 고등학교 때는 팝펑크 밴드에서 친구들과 작은 공연들을 했습니다. 음악은 제 삶에서 항상 함께해 온 존재예요. 학창시절의 기억 대부분이 어떤 노래나 앨범과 연결되어 있을 정도거든요. 지금 이렇게 매일 음악을 만들 수 있다는 게 정말 감사하고, 음악은 제 정체성을 만든 중요한 부분이에요. 음악 없는 삶은 상상할 수 없습니다.
 

Q. 음악 외에 힘들 때 에너지를 충전하는 방법이 있나요?
 

저는 사람들과 어울리거나 여행을 가거나, 혹은 조용히 카페에서 시간을 보내면서 충전합니다. 피트니스도 아주 중요해서 아내와 함께 일주일에 6일은 F45라는 피트니스 센터에 가요. 균형과 체력을 유지하는 데 큰 도움이 됩니다. 또 자연을 좋아해서 산에 오르거나 해변에서 쉬는 것도 즐겨요.
 

Q. 한국 팬들을 직접 만나게 된다면 가장 기대되는 건?
 

무엇보다 직접 “감사합니다”라고 말하고 싶어요. 한국 팬분들은 제 음악을 가장 꾸준히 사랑해 주신 분들이라, 한국에서 공연을 통해 그 마음을 전할 수 있다면 큰 영광일 것 같습니다. 정말 오래 기다려 왔습니다.
 

Q. 본인이 가장 강한 애착을 느끼는 곡은 무엇인가요?
 

두 곡을 꼽고 싶어요. [Be Kind]와 [Hold You]입니다. [Be Kind]는 ‘친절이 세상을 바꿀 수 있다’는 제 신념을 담은 곡이에요. 우리가 매일 조금씩 친절을 실천한다면 놀라운 변화가 일어날 거라고 믿습니다. [Hold You]는 제 아내를 향한 사랑을 표현한 곡이에요. “그냥 안아주고 싶다” 라는 단순한 메시지를 담았는데, 복잡한 삶 속에서도 사랑은 오히려 작고 단순한 순간들 속에 있다는 걸 상기시켜 줍니다.
 

Q. 처음 듣는 한국 팬들에게 추천하고 싶은 곡은?
 

제일 최근에 발표한 곡들부터 들어보시고, 점점 예전 곡들로 거슬러 올라가 보시길 권합니다. 하지만 많은 한국 팬분들이 특히 좋아하시는 곡이 <Wide Open>이라, 이 곡부터 시작하시면 좋을 것 같아요.

Q. Could you briefly introduce yourself to your Korean fans?
 

Hello! My name is Aaron Kellim. I’m a pop singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. My mission is to bring people together through kindness and music. Many of my songs have been featured in TV shows and online dramas, so you may have already heard my music without realizing it. I’m very thankful for my Korean fans and truly hope to meet you in person soon.

Q. How was it working with Henry Young on [Run]?
 

It was a wonderful experience. Henry and his team ROAR contacted me about a possible collaboration and shared the production for [Run]. Immediately, I had many ideas. We discussed the direction of the lyrics and melody, and then I began writing. Henry had great instincts, but he also gave me freedom to create naturally. That trust made the collaboration very special.

Q. What emotion did you want to capture most in the song?
 

I wanted to show feelings of desire, confusion, love, and even a little hopelessness. Sometimes a relationship looks perfect from the outside, but inside you know it is not the right match. You keep trying, but no matter how much effort you give, you return to the same doubts. That emotional cycle is what I tried to capture.

Q. What was your main focus while recording the vocals?
 

My focus was on expressing mixed emotions—uncertainty, unanswered questions, but also the realization of what must be done. I wanted the performance to sound moody and honest, so that listeners could really feel the conflict inside the character.

Q. Does the story of [Run] connect with your own experiences?
 

Yes, it does. I’ve been happily married for 13 years, but when I was younger, I stayed in relationships that I knew were not right. I think many people try to prove they can make it work, even when both sides know it cannot last. I also know friends who have gone through very similar experiences.
 

Q. How did you first get into music, and what does music mean to you?
 

I started in 5th grade, when my school received acoustic guitars for our music class. Soon after, I got my own guitar and began playing all the time. I learned a lot by performing in my church band and singing in high school. I was also in a pop-punk band, playing small shows with Friends. Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Almost all of my school memories are connected to songs or albums. Now, I’m grateful that I can create music every day. It has shaped who I am, and I honestly cannot imagine life without it.

Q. Outside of music, what helps you recharge when things get tough?
 

I recharge by being around people, traveling, or spending quiet time in a coffee shop. Fitness is also very important for me—my wife and I go to our gym, F45, six days a week. It helps us stay strong and balanced. I also love being outdoors, hiking in the mountains or relaxing at the beach.

Q. If you meet your Korean fans in person, what are you most excited for?
 

Most of all, I want to say thank you directly. My Korean fans have been among my most loyal supporters, and it would be an honor to perform in Korea and express my gratitude in person. I have been waiting for the chance to come and play shows there.

Q. Which of your songs do you feel the strongest personal connection to, and why?
 

Two songs: [Be Kind] and [Hold You]. [Be Kind] represents my belief that kindness can change the world. If each of us practiced kindness every day, I believe we would see amazing change. [Hold You] expresses my love for my wife. Its message is simple—“I think I want to hold you.” Life can be complicated, but this song reminds me that love is often found in the small and simple moments.

Q. For Korean fans who are new to your music, which song would you recommend they
start with?
 

I would encourage fans to start with my newest songs and then explore the earlier ones. But since many Korean fans especially love [Wide Open], that could be a perfect place to begin.
